Men’s Soccer Felled By Late Assumption Marker Saturday Night

Noam Kolakofsky

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 15, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team went scoreless for the second consecutive game as they were defeated 1-0 by Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College Saturday evening in Worcester, Mass. With the win, the Greyhounds improve to 2-0 in league play while the Ravens suffered their second defeat.

Franklin Pierce outshot Assumption 12-to-11 in the contest and the Crimson and Grey held the advantage in shots on goal 6-4, but the hosts won the battle on the scoreboard. The Raven offense received a lift as team captain Noam Kolakofsky (Achziv, Israel) returned from injury and made his first appearance of the season. The junior midfielder led the match in shots (4) and shots on goal (3).

Assumption broke through in the 72nd minute as Dylan Rodrigues lofted a corner kick into the box that was headed home by Chase Gurcan for his first goal of the season. FPU recorded two more shot attempts over the remainder of the second half, a header from Niklas Laudahn (Olfen, Germany) and a last chance header from Calvin Fillios (Marlborough, Mass.) in the 90th minute. Both potential game-tying shot attempts went wide of the mark.

Greyhounds goalkeeper Sebastian Jimenez turned away six shots in the victory as he improved to 4-1 on the year. Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago) made three saves in the loss.

The Ravens will look to stop their four game losing skid on Wednesday when they travel to the College of Saint Rose for a 7:00 p.m. duel.
