Highlights

RINDGE, N.H. (October 21, 2017) – Adelphi University men's soccer sophomore forward Taylor Kaczynski tallied his third goal of the season while Ofek Pinto added an insurance marker as the no. 14 nationally-ranked Panthers came into Sodexo Field and defeated the Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action. With the victory, the Panthers increase their record to 11-1-2, 9-1-1 NE10 while the Ravens slide to 6-5-2 overall and 4-5-2 NE10.

The duel was a rematch of the 2016 NE10 Championship Semifinal contest last year in which the Panthers won 2-0. Franklin Pierce is currently 0-4-1 over their last five meetings with Adelphi. The match was a physical affair which saw a total of 24 fouls called and two yellow cards handed out in the second half. The guests outshot the hosts 20-7 over the course of the duel and held the advantage in corner kicks (12-to-1) as well.

Franklin Pierce had a chance to draw first blood in this battle when sophomore midfielder Noam Kolakofsky (Liman, Israel) lofted a shot towards the cage, but his attempt was high and out of play.

Kaczynski broke the deadlock in the 10th minute as Joseph Sanchez crossed the ball from the right side to Kaczynski on the left who headed the rock home past a diving Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago).

Before the intermission, the Crimson and Grey had a golden opportunity to tie the match. Franklin Pierce was awarded an indirect kick six yards from goal in the 44th minute. The ball was passed back to senior captain Hamish Cadigan (Christchurch, New Zealand) who had an open look at the cage, but his attempted shot was blocked by a Panther player and cleared out of the zone.

In the 75th minute, Pinto headed home a cross from teammate Toni Soler to give the guests an insurance goal and a 2-0 lead that they wouldn't relinquish. The Ravens ripped only four shots in the second stanza and the two shots on goal were turned away by netminder Raymond Leto.

Poon-Lewis made six saves in the setback while Leto earned the shutout victory with a two-save effort.

The Ravens travel away from campus on Tuesday for a huge conference showdown with playoff seeding implications versus American International College at 7:00 p.m.
