Ravens Remain Unblemished With Third Straight Shutout Win

RINDGE, N.H. (September 16, 2017) – After defeating no. 25 nationally-ranked Le Moyne College on Tuesday, the Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team followed up their double-overtime victory with a 2-0 regulation shutout win versus Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College Saturday evening on Sodexo Field. The win keeps the Ravens unbeaten at 4-0-0, 2-0-0 and the loss sends the Greyhounds to .500 at 3-3-0, 1-1-0 NE10.

The shutout win marks the third straight contest that the Ravens and goalkeeper Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago) have kept the opponents out of the score column. Poon-Lewis hasn't allowed a goal past him since the opener at Bridgeport on September 2nd, 324:50 minutes ago. The sophomore netmidner matched his season-high watermark in saves with four in the victory. The shutout was his six of his career as he matched last year's total of three through four games.

The last time Franklin Pierce recorded three consecutive shutout wins was in the 2013 season when they defeated Stonehill College, The College of Saint Rose and Saint Anselm College by 4-0, 2-0 and 3-0 scores.

The contest was a physical battle which saw four yellow cards dished out by the referees and 26 total fouls called.

Assumption looked to take an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when junior forward Chase Gurcan drove from the right side into the box and ripped a shot that Pool-Lewis stopped outstretched with both hands. This was the guests' best scoring chance of the night.

The highlight of the night came three minutes later when senior defender Hamish Cadigan (Christchurch, New Zealand) lofted a free kick from about midfield into the box. Freshman forward Yannik Felber (Koblenz, Germany) saw the ball coming, played the rock off his head towards the cage and into the net with his back turned to the keeper. Cadigan and Felber's 60 yard connection gave the Ravens a lead they would never relinquish.

Freshman midfielder Joel Peterson (Christchurch, New Zealand) added an insurance tally in the second half as sophomore defender Niklas Laudahn (Olfen, Germany) played a through ball from the left side to a streaking Peterson who turned on the jets, ran past defenders and buried the shot into the lower right of the net. The score was Peterson's first of his collegiate career.

Greyhound goalie Brian Murray made six saves in the setback and fell to 3-3-0 on the season. Poon-Lewis upped his mark to 4-0-0.

The Ravens head back to the pitch on Wednesday, September 20th when they host NE10 opponent Saint Rose for a 7:00 p.m. showdown.
