Jadel's Journey: Poon-Lewis Travels Overseas for CONCACF U-20 Team

RINDGE, N.H. (January 31, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University men's soccer freshman goalkeeper Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago) is traveling to Costa Rica to participate in the 2017 Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Under-20 Championship.

Poon-Lewis will represent his country Trinidad & Tobago in "Group C" and will compete against Costa Rica, El Salvador and Bermuda. He was one of 26 player selected to compete for team Trinidad & Tobago. After the "Group Stage" is completed, the top two teams from each group in the "Classification Stage" will qualify for the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup which will take place in South Korea from May 20th to June 11th. The group winners will also advance to the final to decide the champions of the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

Poon-Lewis leaves the United States today and will head to Cali, Colombia for warmup matches and then the team will travel to San José, Costa Rica for the opening match on Sunday, February 19th versus Bermuda at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá, Tibás.

Poon-Lewis, a 2016 Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team selection, started and played in 17 games for the Ravens. He played 1,445:08 minutes in the cage, tallied a 1.31 goals-against average which was fifth best in the conference. He ranked seventh in the NE10 in save percentage (.738) and shutouts (3) while ranking eighth in saves (59), and ninth in goals-against (21). Overall, Poon-Lewis was 11-5 on the year and the 11 wins were the fourth most in the league.
