Ravens Rally From Second Stanza Deficit, But Fall in OT During NCAA First Round

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (November 10, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team's season came to an end on Thursday afternoon in the NCAA Tournament after a First Round 3-2 overtime loss to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Merrimack College. With the loss, the Crimson and Grey finish the campaign at 12-6 and the Warriors remain alive at 15-5.

The no. 5 seeded Warriors will face off against the no. 1 seeded LIU Post Pioneers (17-0-1) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The two surviving teams in the pod will advance to the East Region Final next week hosted by the highest remaining seed.

The Ravens were outshot by a 7-to-2 margin in the first half of play with none of those shots coming on goal, but turned it on in the second half with six shots to the Warriors seven.

The score was deadlocked 20 minutes in before Alexander Alleyne opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season as he corralled a deflection off Niklas Laudahn (Olfen, Germany), settled the rock and ripped a shot into the right corner of the net.

15 minutes later Lars Sund received a cross from Connor O'Brien and Sund rifled the rock into the right side of the net past Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago).

In the beginning of the second stanza, the Ravens had a prime chance to cut the deficit as Hamish Cadigan (Christchurch, New Zealand) crossed the ball to the right post, but none of his teammates were in the area and the attempted scoring threat was cleared out of the zone.

However in the 62nd minute freshman midfielder Noam Kolakofsky (Liman, Israel) notched a tally for the Crimson and Grey with a shot from the top of the box through multiple defenders that landed inside of the left post for his third goal of the season.

Laudahn knotted up the score in the 80th minute with a rocket from 16 yards out that tickled the top left twine. Laudahn's score was his third of the season and the gino was assisted by Jacob Maddox (Southborough, Mass.).

With under two minutes remaining, Cadigan had two free kick opportunities from just outside the box. The first one he kicked into the wall and the second chance was headed out of danger.

Eight minutes into overtime, Aasmund Joedahl won the contest for the Warriors as he put in a rebound by Juan Meza off a corner kick to send Merrimack home with the victory.

Poon-Lewis made three saves in the loss while his counterpart Tyler Packett stopped one shot in the win.
