Early Goal Allows Men’s Soccer to Finish Season with 1-0 Win Over Assumption

Ravens honor three seniors prior to game

RINDGE, N.H. (October 30, 2015) – The only four-year senior on the field for the Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team on Friday night, senior midfielder George Levantakis (Lynnfield, Mass.) was a fitting player to score the game's only goal on Senior Night at Sodexo Field. Levantakis got a fortunate bounce to score in the 13th minute, lifting the Ravens to a 1-0 win over Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce concludes its season at 5-9-3 (3-7-3 Northeast-10), while Assumption closes out its schedule at 2-12-4 (2-7-4 Northeast-10).

The only goal of the game came early on, in the 13th minute, after a long ball from the midfield sent senior forward Marius Preber (Jessheim, Norway) into the right-wing corner. Preber worked his way into the penalty area along the end line and somehow threaded a cross along the ground, through large amounts of defensive traffic and to the foot of Levantakis, who was approximately 10 yards out, off the left post. Levantakis stepped into a one-time shot, which he intended for the right post, but the shot took a carom off of an Assumption defender and wound up in the middle of the net instead, for Levantakis' third goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce held advantages of 18-7 in shot attempts, 6-2 in shots on goal and 8-3 in corner kicks over the course of the night's 90 minutes. Still, the Levantakis marker stood as the only goal of the night, as the Ravens came away 1-0 winners in their season finale.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan LeGuyader (Jersey, United Kingdom) stopped the only shot in faced in the first half to pick up the win (5-8-3) before ceding the net in the second half. Junior goalkeeper Aidan Abolfazli (Worcester, Mass.) played the second 45 minutes and stopped the only shot on his goal as well, as the two combined for the shutout. Senior Dana King (2-9-4) made four saves against five shots on goal in his collegiate finale for Assumption. King was lifted in the 63rd minute, and freshman Zach Rowell did not face a shot on target the rest of the way.
