Second-Half Goal Sinks Men’s Soccer in 1-0 Loss to No. 25 Merrimack

Ravens wrap up regular season vs. SCSU on Friday

Ravens Men's Soccer RINDGE, N.H. (October 28, 2014) – Merrimack sophomore forward Alexander Alleyne scored the game's only goal in the 59th minute on Tuesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of No. 25 nationally ranked Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Freshman goalkeeper Jordan LeGuyader (Jersey, United Kingdom) made three saves in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 8-6-1 (6-5-1 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves 12-2-2 (8-2-2 Northeast-10).

After the first 58 minutes were fairly uneventful, Merrimack broke the ice with the only goal of the night in the 59th minute. The play developed quickly from the right-wing side, as junior forward Augusto Silva sent a cross into the goalmouth. Alleyne had made a run towards the right post and was able to redirect it out of midair and beyond the reach of LeGuyader for his fifth goal of the campaign.

The game played evenly from a statistical standpoint, though without many scoring chances, as each team attempted 11 shots and Merrimack held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.

LeGuyader finished with three saves and suffered the loss (8-4-1) in net for Franklin Pierce. At the other end, senior goalkeeper Jose Silva stopped both shots on his net to pick up the win (11-2-2) and notch his seventh shutout of the season.

The Ravens return to the field on Friday, Oct. 31, when they remain home to host Southern Connecticut State in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
