Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with Merrimack

Pedro Espindola logs six shots for the Ravens

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 30, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team played Merrimack for 110 minutes Wednesday night as neither side could produce a goal in a 0-0 draw at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover, Mass.

Franklin Pierce moved to 8-6-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Warriors moved to 12-2-1 and 7-4-1 in league play.

The Ravens held a 5-2 advantage in shots in the two overtimes after they fired off nine shots in the second half to try and break the scoreless tie.

Franklin Pierce was led offensively by freshman forward Pedro Espindola (Sao Paulo, Brazil), as he logged six shots with three going on goal. Despite not scoring a goal in the contest, Espindola continued his strong offensive play as of late, as he now has 31 total shots over the last five matches.

Senior Gareth Dudney (North Andover, Mass.) registered three shots with two on net, while Ryan Ruffing (Westborough, Mass.) and David Lima (Everett, Mass.) added two attempts apiece.

Merrimack keeper Jose Silva turned aside all nine shots he faced in keeping the match scoreless and moving his record to 12-2-1 on the year.

A trio of Warriors, Ryan Miller, Ronald Ried, and Michael Rincon, each attempted two shots to lead Merrimack, but Franklin Pierce keeper Sam Meza (Whittier, Calif.) was more than up to the challenge as well in making four saves to move his record to 8-6-1 on the year.

Franklin Pierce is 5-1-1 in its last seven matches, as the Ravens head into Friday night’s regular season finale at Southern Connecticut State at 7 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
