Franklin Pierce Men's Soccer Team Wears Down Assumption
Ravens Pull Away in Second Half for 3-0 Win
RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 23, 2000) - Second-half goals by Chris Schwarz (Babenhausen, Germany), Michael Carpenter (Russell, Mass.) and Travis Tate (Detroit, Mich.) allowed the Franklin Pierce men's soccer team to deal Assumption College its first NE-10 Conference defeat, a 3-0 decision Saturday in front of a Parents Day crowd at 500 at Crystal Field. The Greyhounds (2-3-1, 2-1-1 NE-10) were beat on corner kicks
that set up the first two goals for the Ravens (5-2, 2-1 NE-1). The second came in the 63rd minute when Carpenter put a head on
a crossing pass from Rich Gordon (Glasgow, Scotland) after a corner
kick. Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Rob Scholz (Schenectady, N.Y.) made seven saves, none bigger than a diving stop of a quick, hard shot by Karl Krause (Holliston, Mass.) to preserve a scoreless tie in the first half. Scholz now has three shutouts this year. The Ravens used their quickness up front and their ability to contain brothers Karl and Neil Krause, who teamed for eight goals in Assumption's first five games, to gain the edge in the second half. The Ravens are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Waltham, Mass., to play Bentley. The Greyhounds also resume play Wednesday, returning to Worcester, Mass., to face the College of St. Rose. |
