MANCHESTER, N.H.  (March 24, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse senior attack Jack Carney (Dunbarton, N.H.) led all players with four goals while fellow team captain Benjamin Lassow (Mansfield, Conn.) chipped in three goals and one assist during a 17-11 setback to Northeast-10 Conference opponent no. 20 nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium. The loss, the Ravens first of the season snaps their four-game winning streak and sends the Crimson and Grey to 4-1, 2-1 NE10 while the Hawks improve to 2-1, 1-1 in league play.

Carney recorded a second-half hat trick (three goals) while dumping in a marker in the first quarter. Teammate Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) added two goals and a helper while Matt Brewster (Merrimack, N.H.) and Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.) produced two-point efforts.

Raven goalkeeper and reigning NE10 netminder of the Week Justin Lorenzo (Goshen, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots in the cage as he suffered his first collegiate loss. Faceoff specialist Louis Palumbo (Commack, N.Y.) was 21-of-31 (67.7%) from the x and scooped up a game-high eight groundballs. Palumbo tied John Markiewicz (2001) for the second most groundballs in program history with 166 and he is only four more away from becoming the programs all-time leader.

For the Hawks, Xavier Quinn paced their attack with four goals while Ryan Hesseltine manufactured a five-point effort.

Saint Anselm jumped ahead 1-0 in the early going via an unassisted marker off the stick of James Righini. Palumbo won the ensuing faceoff which led to the Ravens first trip to the attacking zone. Lassow netted the equalizer to tie the score at one all. Franklin Pierce had an opportunity to tie which was turned away by Hawk goalie Nick Richard and was successfully cleared. Ryan Richards came up from the top and ran through the right side to regain the lead for Saint A's at 2-1 before Carney brought things back to a deadlock at the 7:19 mark.

Saint Anselm poured in two goals to lead 4-2, but Delea found Lassow who was wide open on the left wing with 2:38 left before the end of the quarter and the senior captain ripped a shot into the cage, his 15th marker of the season to make the duel 4-3.

In the second, the Hawks tallied two goals, the second during the man advantage following an offside penalty by the Crimson and Grey. Pierce immediately went on the "UP" chance after the hosts were called for stalling, however, they cleared away the ball. A few minutes later, Delea brought the Raven deficit to two 6-4, with his first goal of the contest. Saint Anselm held the Ravens scoreless over the final 10:57 of the period and added six goals to push their advantage to 12-4 at the break.

The third quarter saw the Ravens rally outscoring the Hawks 5-2 to come within, five, 14-9 after Carney, just outside the crease threw in a falling away shot fed by Brewster who was standing behind the cage. Saint Anselm put Pierce away with two goals over the opening five minutes of the fourth quarter.

Franklin Pierce remains away from campus for their next game on Saturday, March 31st against NE10 opponent Bentley University at 1:00 p.m.
