#16 Southern N.H. Edges Franklin Pierce in OT

MANCHESTER, N.H.  (April 15, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University junior attack Jack Carney (Dunbarton, N.H.) led all scorers with four goals while teammate Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) chipped in two markers and a team-best two assists as the no. 16 nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team squeaked past the Ravens 15-14 in overtime Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference action on Larkin Field.

The Ravens held a one goal advantage after the first period, a two goal lead heading into the fourth and even increased their edge to four goals on a Ben Lassow (Mansfield, Conn.) "UP" score assisted by Delea, but the Penmen stormed back to knot the score with four unanswered markers with two coming off the stick of Zach Tanner.

With 3:27 left in the game, senior defender Robert Meyers (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) dished the rock to Carney and he buried a shot into the cage to push the Ravens ahead 14-13. Two minutes passed before SNHU netted the equalizer as Tanner completed the fourth quarter hat-trick.

Junior midfielder Louis Palumbo (Commack, N.Y.) stepped into the faceoff x, won the draw against Patrick Goff and scooped up the loose ball. The Ravens called a timeout with 1:12 left looking to draw up the game winning play.

The Ravens stalled a bit looking for the perfect shot as they ball swapped sticks on the perimeter. Delea received possession on the right wing, cradled in a bit and fired a shot that was denied by Penmen goalkeeper Michael Brawley. Franklin Pierce regained possession and turned the ball over ending their scoring threat and regulation.

Andrew Liu won the faceoff in the free frame and the groundball was picked up by Mark Beirne. Beirne took the ball straight down the center of the Raven defense and rifled a shot with a clear path of the net, but it was wide of the mark. The ball stayed with the Penmen as they set up their offense and senior Daniel Trainor ended the contest with a cutting, behind the back tally.

Southern New Hampshire outshot the Ravens 56-27 on the afternoon and won 18-of-31 faceoffs. Raven sophomore middie Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.) tallied three goals and one helper while Luke Tracy (Pelham, N.H.) and Ben Lassow added two scores each. Junior netminder Connor Wacksman (Guilderland, N.Y.) stopped 13 shots while playing the whole game in the cage.

Tanner and Keifer Heckman paced the Penmen attack with three goal efforts. Starting goalkeeper Tyler Walsh allowed 10 goals in 34:44 minutes while making two saves. Michael Brawley improved to 4-0 on the year by making one save in 29:16 of relief action.

The Ravens return to Rindge on Wednesday when the play host to Saint Michael's in a 3:30 p.m. conference showdown.
