RINDGE, N.H.  (April 8, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse junior attack Jack Carney (Dunbarton, N.H.) scored a game-high five goals as no. 6 nationally-ranked Adelphi University departed Sodexo Field with a 16-10 win on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action. The win kept the Panthers atop the NE10 standings at 9-1, 7-0 NE10 and the loss sends the Ravens to 3-5 overall, 1-5 NE10.

Carney did most of his damage in the second half with the Crimson and Grey trailing as he tallied four of his five markers across the final 30 minutes. Teammate Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.) chipped in a game-best three assists while Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) added two ginos. On the defensive side, Robert Meyers (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) scooped up a team-high four groundballs and caused a game-high three turnovers.

The Ravens held the advantage in shots (42-to-34), turnovers (9-to-16) and man up chances (1-of-3 to 0-of-1), but struggled from the face off x as the Panthers won 21-of-29 (72.4%) of face offs.

Adelphi junior attack Ian Kirby racked up four goals, one assist, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Nicholas Racalbuto scored three goals and Michael Osmundsen tallied a 2-2-4 afternoon.

FPU got on the board in the early going as Ben Lassow (Mansfield, Conn.) smoked a shot from the right wing as the shot clock was activated. Lassow's initial shot attempt was turned away by starting goalkeeper Brendan McDougal, but Lassow corralled the groundball and threw in a second chance shot to give the Ravens the early 1-0 edge.

Adelphi would answer with three straight markers as Osmundsen won the faceoff and streaked down the center of the turf while Racalbuto and Kirby scored assisted goals to take a 3-1 lead and forced the Ravens into a timeout.

Following the stoppage, Adelphi poured in four unanswered to jump out ahead 7-1 with 7:51 left in the first quarter. Carney ended the Panther binge as he spun off a defender on the left wing a buried a top shelf shot attempt. Delea would score two minutes later by dangling through the teeth of the Panther defense and depositing a sideways shot into the back of the cage. The Ravens would head into the second stanza trailing 10-3.

Both teams would trade goals in the second as Castorf got the scoring started by running to the left side, faking a shot and wristing it home. Osmundsen would score 49 seconds later then Carney matched Osmundsen's marker with a spinning fall-away attempt while being slashed. With 25 seconds to go Kirby threw in an unassisted gino as the Panthers led 12-5 at the midway point.

Racalbuto and Kirby connected on a cross field catch and shoot to bump the lead to 13-5. At the 4:30 mark, Kirby scored his fourth and final goal of the game to move Adelphi ahead 14-5. Delea and Luke Tracy (Pelham, N.H.) teamed up during a man up chance to cut the deficit to eight, 14-6.

The Crimson and Grey would outscore the guests 4-2 in the final period as Adelphi hung on 16-10.

Raven goalie Connor Wacksman (Guilderland, N.Y.) made a game-high nine saves in the loss and fell to 3-5 on the year. Brendan McDougal improved to 9-1 with eight saves. 

The Ravens welcome no. 2. Nationally-ranked and NE10 opponent Merrimack College to Sodexo Field on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. conference showdown.
