Burnett Five-Point Outing Helps Men’s Lacrosse Win at Saint Rose, 13-10

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 23, 2016) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse had four players with hat tricks in its win against Saint Rose on Saturday. Franklin Pierce took an early lead in the first quarter and was able to hold on against the Golden Knights to take the Northeast-10 win on Sullivan Field, 13-10.

With the win, the Ravens record advances to 5-7 overall and 4-6 in the NE-10, while Saint Rose falls to 3-12 overall and 1-9 in conference.

In the first quarter, sophomore midfielder Louis Palumbo (Commack, N.Y.) kicked off the scoring for the Ravens, off a Golden Knight turnover in the first 30 seconds. Sophomore midfielder Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) and senior attackman Casey Burnett (Windham, N.H.) also had tallies, to put Franklin Pierce up 3-0 with seven minutes left in the first.

Saint Rose was able to get on the board thanks to sophomore attack Matt Graham, who had back-to-back goals to bring the Golden Knights within one point, at 3-2.

Delea and Palumbo each made their way down the field and around their defenders to score again and put the Ravens up 5-2 as the first quarter expired.

Palumbo earned his hat trick at the start of the second with an early goal, receiving a pass from senior defender Dylan Leone (Tewksbury, Mass.). But, the Ravens would run out of steam and Saint Rose was able to make it a one-point game again with three straight goals, cutting the lead to 6-5 at the end of the first half.

The third quarter was dominated by Franklin Pierce, which went on a 5-0 run to start things off. Burnett and Delea both had another goal each, junior attack Anthony D'Aprile (Smithtown, N.Y.) had back-to-back goals, and bringing the scoring to a close was sophomore Ben Lassow (Windham, Conn.). With the surge, the Ravens now led 11-5 with five minutes to go in the third.

The Golden Knights put up three goals to close out the quarter, but were still trailing 11-8 going into the final stanza.

Two more Franklin Pierce goals solidified the win, with Burnett striking for a man-down goal and D'Aprile putting home the final shot of the game with 44 seconds left. The Ravens took the win against the Golden Knights, 13-10.
