Men's Lacrosse Pulls Through in Final Quarter for 14-11 Win over Saint Anselm

RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2015) – Saint Anselm held the advantage for a majority of the game on Saturday afternoon until the final five minutes when the Franklin Pierce University Men's Lacrosse team made a comeback in the final five minutes to win 14-11.

with the win, the Ravens improve to 11-2 (8-2 NE-10) and Saint Anselm falls 1-10 (1-8 NE-10)

Junior Brendan Calderia (Sandwich, Mass.) found senior Kevin Dargin (Littleton, Mass.) with 4:23 left to play to cut into Saint Anselm's four goal advantage. Senior Cody MacLellan (Keene, N.H.) scored in the final minute in courtesy of a pass by freshman Jack Carney (Dunbarton, N.H.), ending the quarter 2-4.

Saint Anselm controlled the second quarter scoring three goals, to a single Raven goal by Dargin from junior Casey Burnett (Windham, N.H.), to regain their four goal advantage 7-3.

The Ravens woke up in the third quarter scoring the first four goals to tie the game 7-7. Senior Erik Kelly (Tewksbury, Mass.) started the rally off a pass across the goal from senior Eddie Noonan (Foxboro, Mass.), followed by a goal from Carney looped in off a pass from Caldeira. Caldieria would find Barnett seconds later to set him up for the sixth Raven goal of the game. Noonan patiently waited for the perfect set up from behind the cage to find Dargin in the cluster of players at the top of the circle, for him to snipe the shot in and tie the game 7-7.

Saint Anselm answered back seconds later scoring two quick goals to take a two goal advantage, 9-7. Burnett found the net off a pass from Caldeira to cut into the lead, however, senior Geoff Olsen  regained the advantage a minute later. In the minute Burnett would post a goal to end the quarter  10-9.

Calderia walked out front from behind the net to find the goal to tie the game 10-10. The Hawks responded by taking a quick goal to take the 11-10 lead.

The Ravens waited for the perfect opportunity, and Dargin found it at the top of the box and shot through traffic to once again tie the game 11-11. With just over two minutes to play, Burnett would come from behind and split two defenders to give the Ravens the lead for the first time of the game, 12-11. Noonan scored the final two goals with less than two minutes to play to secure the 14-11 lead.

Junior Ben Warrne, junior Alex Buxbaum, senior Andy Butz, and sophomore Mark Vitello each had two goals, while Vitello also retrieved six ground balls. Sophomore Chris McCormack grabbed 14 ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Lucas DeANgelo too the loss in cage (0-4) making five saves in his 60 minutes in cage.

Casey Burnett had four goals and an assist, while Kevin Dargin had four goals. Eddie Noonan had two goals and two assists, senior Connor Defemia (Ellington, Conn.) collected four ground balls. Senior goal keeper Don Denman (Exeter, N.H.) made 14 saves in his 60 minutes in cage to take the win (11-2).

The Ravens return to Sodexo Field on Saturday, April 15th, to host Adelphi University at 11:00 a.m.
