Delea Goal in Final Seconds Pushes Men's Lacrosse Past SNHU, 12-11

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 14, 2015) –In the waning seconds on Larkin Field, a cousin-to-cousin connection put away the game-winning goal for the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team, as senior Kevin Dargin (Littleton, Mass.) set up freshman Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.). The goal, which came with six seconds to play, bailed out the Ravens who trailed much of the second hal, but scored four of the last give goals to pull out a 12-11 win over Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday night. 

With the win, the Ravens increase their overall record to 10-2 (7-2 NE-10) and Southern New Hampshire falls 1-11 (1-8 NE-10).

Although SNHU scored the first goal, two unassisted goals by senior attack Eddie Noonan (Foxboro, Mass.) and an unassisted goal by Dargin allowed the Ravens to control the first quarter 3-1.

Not even a minute into the second quarter, junior Cameron Joyce scored his second goal to bring the game within a goal. Freshman Louis Palumbo (Commack, N.Y.) responded seconds later, giving the Ravens back a two goal lead, 4-2.

After three SNHU goals, the advantage would belong to the home team, 5-4, by the end of the second quarter.

Delea tied the game with an unassisted goal at 10:45 in the third quarter. SNHU would respond with two goals to hold a two goal advantage.

Junior Casey Burnett (Windham, N.H.) would score off an assist from freshman Jack Carney (Dunbarton, N.H.). Minutes later, sophomore Keifer Heckman would regain the advantage for SNHU with an unassisted goal at 3:45. With just over a minute to play, Delea would finish the quarter scoring an unassisted goal to end the quarter 8-7.

 

SNHU would score in the first 12 seconds of the final quarter to bring their lead back to two goals, 9-7. Senior Erik Kelley (Tewksbury, Mass.) off a Carney assist would keep the pressure on SNHU bringing the game back within one.

With just over 10 minutes to play in the game, SNHU would once again increase their lead to two goals for the last time. Noonan from Kelly followed by a goal by Carney from Burnett would tie the game 10-10 with 5:11 to play.

Heckman would bring the advantage back to SNHU with just under three minutes to play. Noonan from Kelly would tie the game 11-11 with just under two minutes to play. With just six seconds left to play, Delea would score the game winner off a pass from Dargin to give the Ravens a 12-11 win. 

Keifer Heckman led the game for SNHU with four goals and five ground balls. Cameron Joyce and freshman Chris West each contributed two goals. Sophomore Patrick Goff led the defense with nine ground balls. Graduate student Crosby Nicholson took the loss (1-11) making seven saves off 19 shots on goal in his 60:00 of play.

Eddie Noonan led the offense with four goals and three ground balls. Sean Delea also contributed three goals, while Louis Palumbo added in a goal and grabbed give ground balls. Senior goal keeper Don Denman (Exeter, N.H.) stopped 10 out of 21 shots in his 60:00 between the pipes to take the win (10-2).

The Ravens return to Sodexo Field on Saturday to host Saint Anselm at 12:00 p.m. in Northeast-10 Conference play.
