Men's Lacrosse Brings Home 12-4 Win At AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 1, 2015) –The Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team blew past American International on Wednesday afternoon at Abdow Field.  Junior Dylan Leone (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the defense picking up nine ground balls, while Junior attack Casey Burnett (Windham, N.H.) had four goals to contribute to the 12-4 win.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves their overall record 7-2, while 4-2 in the Northeast-10, while AIC falls 2-7 and 0-6 in NE-10 play.

The first half was dominated by Burnett, who scored the first three goals. Freshman attack Ben Lassow (Mansfield, Conn.) scored the final two goals in the first quarter for the Ravens to hold a 5-0 lead .

Senior goalkeeper Don Denman (Exeter, N.H.) denied the Yellowjackets a goal for 16:53, when AIC scored their first and only goal of the second quarter. Senior attack Eddie Noonan (Foxboro, Mass.) scored back to back goals to increase the Raven lead 7-1. In the final 18 seconds, junior Brenden Calderia (Sandwich, Mass.) would score to round the second quarter score to 8-1.

AIC would score three goals to control the second half to cut the Raven lead in half, 8-4. With 3:49 left to play in the third quarter freshman Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) would score to end the half 9-4.

Noonan, Burnett, and Calderia would each score in the final quarter to give the Ravens a 12-4 win. Denman denied AIC in the final quarter.

Senior Matthew Biggs, and John Magliano each had a goal for the Yellow Jackets. Senior Jeff Sienkiewicz scored a single goal and assisted in one other.  Graduate student Dan Gryszko scored a goal and picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers. Junior  Michael Palmeieri picked up six ground balls and  senior Andrew Sheehan picked up five. Perry Booker took the loss in cage (2-7) stopping 16 out of 28 total shots in his 60:00 in play.

Casey Burnett had four goals and picked up two ground balls. Eddie Nonnan scored three goals while assisting in another; he also picked up a ground ball and caused a turnover. Brenden Caldeira had two goals, three assists, grabbed a ground ball and caused a turnover. Ben Lassow had a pair of goals and Sean Delea posted a single goal. Dylan Leone grabbed nine ground balls and caused a turnover. Don Denman made eight saves against his 12 shots to take the win (7-2) in his 60:00 of play.

The Ravens return to Sodexo Field on Saturday afternoon to take on Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference play. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
