Burnett Scores Four in 9-6 Win Over Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. (March 21, 2015) – Junior attack Casey Burnett (Windham, N.H.) on the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team had four goals against Assumption University in Saturday afternoon's contest. The Ravens outscored the Greyhounds 9-6 at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Ravens are 5-1, with a 2-1 record in the NE-10 with the victory, while Assumption falls 0-3 in NE-10 play, with a 2-5 record.

Freshman Jack Carney (Dunbarton, N.H.) at 14:39 and senior Erik Kelly (Tewksbury, Mass.) at 13:20 gave the Ravens a 2-0 lead with 13:20 left in the first quarter. Assumption would tie the game up with two goals just before the ten minute mark.

A goal from Carne, assisted by Burnett, quickly followed by an unassisted goal by senior Eddie Noonan (Foxboro, Mass.) returned the Ravens to a two goal advantage. Assumption would score at 2:28, ending the first quarter 4-3.

The Ravens held the Greyhounds in the second quarter, pushing the score to 7-3 with an unassisted goal by junior Brendan Caldeira (Sandwich, Mass.), and two unassisted goals by Burnett in the final thirty seconds of the quarter.

Assumption held the Ravens in the third quarter, while junior Tim Casey scored one for the Greyhounds to end the quarter at 7-4.

The Greyhounds had a final push in the beginning of the fourth quarter, trailing by just one goal at 8:57. Burnett would score the final two goals of the game unassisted at 6:55 and at 2:51 by junior Dylan Leone (Tewksbury, Mass.) to end the game 9-6 Ravens.

Junior Paul Curran led the Greyhounds with two goals, while Tim Casey, sophomore Cameron Murphy, junior Garrett Smith, Blaine Birch each posted a goal.Sophomore Nick Guarino led the defense collecting seven ground balls, followed by junior Billy Griffin who collected four.

Casey Burnett led the Ravens with four goals, while Jack Carney added in two and collected two ground balls. Brendan Caldeira, Erik Kelly, Eddie Noonan each added in a goal. Freshman Brad Chapdelaine (Goffstown, N.H.) led the defense collecting three ground balls.

Senior Don Denman (Exeter, N.H.) made 13 saves against 19 shots for his 59:24 between the pipes to take the win (5-1). Senior  Will Contento saved 7 out of his 16 shots in his 59:23 to take the loss (2-5).

The Ravens return to Sodexo Field on Tuesday to host Merrimack at 3:30 p.m.
