Men’s Ice Hockey Rallies Past Worcester State, 2-1 (OT)

Ian Wallace

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 2, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team was outshot 25-7 through two periods on Friday afternoon, but sophomore goaltender Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) kept the team in the game long enough for the Ravens to find their legs. Wallace held the deficit to 1-0 through two stanzas, and the Ravens got a third-period marker from freshman forward Sean Crowley (Sandown, N.H.) to level things. The game ultimately went to overtime, where freshman forward Chris Stevenson (Arvada, Colo.) provided the game-winner, 3:18 into the extra session.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-1-0, while Worcester State falls to 1-2-0.

Neither team could find the net in the first period, though Worcester State posted a 15-3 advantage in shots in the frame. The Lancers would eventually open the scoring 6:44 into the second period. Freshman forward Will Ahearn had the finish right out front for his second goal of the season, while sophomore forward Kyle Hayter provided the lone assist.

Franklin Pierce would even things at 1-1 just over 20 minutes later, at the 6:48 mark of the third stanza. It was the second goal in as many games for Crowley, who was assisted by junior forward Cameron Shepardson (Albany, N.Y.) and Stevenson, on the goal which would ultimately send the game to overtime.

Stevenson provided the heroics, with his first collegiate goal, at the 3:18 mark of the overtime period. Crowley got his second point of the game as well, as he assisted on the winner, along with junior defenseman Jonathan Busolin (Goose Creek, S.C.).

Wallace (2-1-0) all but stole the show for the Ravens, as he made 34 saves against 35 shots, including 24 saves through the first two periods, to pick up the win in front of the Franklin Pierce net. Junior netminder Josh Reinstein (1-2-0) suffered the loss in front of the Worcester State net after making 20 saves against 22 shots.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Nov. 6, when they return home to host Saint Anselm in their Northeast-10 Conference opener. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
