Men’s Ice Hockey Shutout by Saint Anselm on Senior Night, 4-0

WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 9, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team came up empty at home on Senior Night on Friday night, at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Instead, it was Saint Anselm freshman forward Alec Andreucci who factored in on all four of the game's goals to lead the Hawks to a 4-0 win over the Ravens in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-15-1 (2-8-1 NE10), while Saint Anselm improves to 11-9-1 (8-4-0 NE10). The two teams will meet again on Saturday night to wrap up the three-game season series. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

Saint Anselm got the only goal it would need on the night at the 15:22 mark of the first period. From behind the goal line, junior forward Bryan Green worked the puck into the left-wing circle for Andreucci. Andreucci in turn looked to center for freshman forward John Femia, but the Franklin Pierce defense was able to break up the pass. However, the puck deflected into the path of senior defenseman Nick Gorski in the high slot. Gorski stepped into a shot from there and put it to the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, the Hawks tacked on three goals in the third period to create the 4-0 final. The first of the trio came at 2:26, after Andreucci led a rush into the offensive end. Andreucci left a drop pass in the slot for senior forward Jon Pallotta, who snapped a shot into the top-right corner for his 10th goal of the campaign. Sophomore forward Mike Ferraro added the first of his two assists on the night as well.

At 12:11, Andreucci struck for the first of his two goals in the game. His seventh of the year came from the slot -- with another shot into the top-right corner -- after he took a feed from sophomore forward Sean Verrier in the left-wing circle. Femia tacked on the play's secondary assist.

The final goal of the night came at the 19-minute mark, and was a power-play tally. From the bottom of the right-wing circle, Ferraro slipped a pass across the crease to Andreucci, who was crashing the left post. The latter had an easy finish into an all-but empty net to cap the game's scoring. Junior forward Jeremy Carignan picked up an assist on the play as well.

Senior goaltender Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) finished with 35 saves against 39 shots and suffered the loss (3-12-1) in the crease for Franklin Pierce. At the other end of the ice, junior netminder Colin Soucy (4-4-1) stopped all 20 shots he faced to post his second career shutout.
