Men’s Ice Hockey Picks Up Fourth Straight Win, Shuts Out Stonehill, 3-0

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (November 19, 2016) – Junior goaltender Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) stopped all 34 shots he faced to post his fourth career shutout on Saturday night, as the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team posted a 3-0 road win over Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play at Foxboro Sports Center. The Ravens got goals from three different players, including the first-period game-winner from freshman forward Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.).

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-2-0 (2-1-0 Northeast-10) and has won four straight, while Stonehill falls to 3-3-1 (1-2-0 Northeast-10). For Franklin Pierce, the four straight wins are the most by the program since a four-game winning streak from Feb. 2-14, 2013.

Franklin Pierce got one goal in each of the three periods on Saturday night. Toombs opened the scoring, with the only goal the Ravens would need, at the 7:25 mark of the first stanza. Sophomore defenseman Blaise Kilroy (Spring City, Pa.) provided the lone assist on Toombs' second goal of the season.

Junior forward Jonathan Haun (Buffalo, N.Y.) doubled the lead to 2-0 with his third goal of the campaign, early in the second frame. Sophomore defenseman Jack Williams (Suffield, Conn.) and sophomore forward Nate Indelicato (Pembroke, Mass.) had the helpers at the 2:27 mark.

Freshman forward Alex Lester (Methuen, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with an empty-net goal at the 19:32 mark of the third to create the 3-0 final. The goal was unassisted, and was Lester's third score of the year.

McGuckin (5-2-0) stopped all 34 shots on his goal to pick up the win between the pipes for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore goaltender William Palmer (3-3-1) stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced to take the loss in the crease for Stonehill.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when they return home to host Westfield State in a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
