Haun, Indelicato Lead Way as Men’s Ice Hockey Routs Post, 11-0

SHELTON, Conn. (February 1, 2017) – Junior forward Jonathan Haun (Buffalo, N.Y.) piled up five points (3-2-5), while sophomore forward Nate Indelicato (Pembroke, Mass.) added a hat trick of his own on Wednesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team snapped a four-game losing streak with an 11-0 non-conference in on the road at Post. Senior goaltender Austin Christopher (Winthrop, Maine) made 32 saves at Sports Center of Connecticut to earn his first career shutout.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 8-13-1, while Post falls to 0-12-0.

After some early fireworks which saw each team collect a bushel of penalty minutes, Franklin Pierce opened the scoring with a pair of special-teams tallies late in the first period. Indelicato started things off at the 17:00 mark with his seventh goal of the season, a power-play goal, off an assist from sophomore defenseman Jack Williams (Suffield, Conn.). Senior defenseman Alex Schleper (Sutton, Mass.) made it 2-0 just 67 seconds later, at 18:07, with a shorthanded marker, while freshman forward Kyle Gosselin (Haverhill, Mass.) provided the assist.

Three more goals in the opening five minutes of the second period broke the game wide open and allowed Franklin Pierce to cruise the rest of the way. Just 27 seconds into the stanza, Indelicato made it 3-0 with his second of the night, unassisted and shorthanded. He completed his hat trick at the 2:51 mark, finishing off a feed from junior forward David Wilcox (Stillwater, Maine). Haun then followed with his first of the night, and his sixth of the season, at 4:42, with assists going to senior defenseman Taylor Fletcher (Leominster, Mass.) and junior forward Blake Manginell (Troy, Mich.). The fifth of the season for freshman forward Alex Lester (Methuen, Mass.) at 14:24, shorthanded from Williams and Haun, made it 6-0 heading into the third period.

Franklin Pierce poured in five goals in the third to create the 11-0 final. Haun scored twice more, bookending the frame with power-play markers, and added an assist along the way to finish his five-point night. The third period also saw even-strength goals from freshman forward Shepheard Stahel (Plano, Texas), Manginell and senior forward Connor Mauro (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to round out the night's scoring.

Christopher (1-1-0) picked up his first collegiate shutout by stopping all 32 shots he faced, as Franklin Pierce outshot Post, 54-32. Sophomore netminder Joseph Grout (0-5-0) finished with 43 saves against 54 shots at the other end of the ice and suffered the loss for Post.

The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Ice Den in Hooksett, N.H.
