Men’s Ice Hockey Winged at Westfield State, 4-3

Ravens visit Saint Michael's next Tuesday

WESTFIELD, Mass. (November 24, 2015) – Sophomore forward Jonathan Haun (Buffalo, N.Y.) tied the game in the second period and closed the deficit to one in the third on Tuesday night, but the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team could never claim the lead at Amelia Park Ice Rink. Sophomore forward Cody Campbell-Rich struck twice on the other side of the ledger, to lead Westfield State to a 4-3 win in non-conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-7-0, while Westfield State improves to 6-1-0.

Westfield State struck twice after the midpoint of the first period for the stanza's only goals. Campbell-Rich opened the scoring at the 10:51 mark with an unassisted marker, his third goal of the season. Freshman defenseman Carl Greco followed with his first collegiate goal at 15:36, off of assists from freshman defenseman Wyatt Trumbley and sophomore forward Cory Wilson.

Franklin Pierce surged back to tie the game at 2-2 with a pair of goals in the second period. Sophomore forward Anthony Langevin (Albany, N.Y.) struck first, for his first goal of the year, at the 5:12 mark, with freshman defenseman Dylan Yameen (Methuen, Mass.) picking up the lone assist. Haun followed with his first of the season as well, an unassisted tally at 11:35, to level the score.

Westfield State would reclaim the lead before the middle frame was through, as Yameen took an interference penalty which led to a power-play goal. Campbell-Rich struck on the man-advantage at 16:53, while Wilson and freshman forward Colby Daniels provided the assists.

Much of the third period went without further scoring, before Westfield State notched an important insurance goal at the 14:13 mark. Freshman forward Johnny Orlando put away his first career goal, unassisted. The goal loomed large, as Haun's second of the night followed just 91 seconds later, at 15:44, to create the 4-3 final. Freshman defenseman Jack Williams (Suffield, Conn.) and junior forward Connor Mauro (Shrewsbury, Mass.) picked up the assists on the play.

Franklin Pierce pulled sophomore goaltender Étienne Roy (Saint-Henri, Quebec) in favor of an extra attacker for the final 45 seconds, but were unable to draw even once again.

Roy (0-2-0) finished with 29 saves against 33 shots on goal in front of the net for Franklin Pierce. At the other end of the ice, junior netminder Jonathan LoParco (6-1-0) piled up 42 saves against 45 shots in the crease for Westfield State.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Dec. 1, when they travel to Saint Michael's for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Cairns Arena in South Burlington, Vt.
