Men’s Ice Hockey Stopped at Hamilton, 5-0

Ravens visit Westfield State on Tuesday

CLINTON, N.Y. (November 21, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team fell into a 1-0 hole in the first period on Saturday night, and things only got worse from there at Russell Sage Rink. Hamilton added two goals each in the second and third periods, as Franklin Pierce suffered a 5-0 defeat on the road in non-conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-6-0, while Hamilton improves to 1-1-0.

Hamilton picked up the only goal it would need on Saturday night at the 7:51 mark of the first period. Junior forward Robbie Murden opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, his first of the season, which would stand as the game-winning goal.

The Continentals added a pair of goals in the second period to push the lead to 3-0. Just 1:41 into the frame, sophomore forward Brandon Willett struck for a power-play marker, his first of the campaign, off assists from Murden and senior defenseman Tyler Lovejoy. Later, at the 15:41 mark, sophomore forward Neil Conway scored his first goal of the year as well, finishing off an assist from junior defenseman Conor Lamberti.

Hamilton added another pair of goals in the third period to create the 5-0 final. Murden picked up his second of the night at the 3:58 mark, while Willett and Conway each picked up their second points of the night with the helpers on the play. A power-play goal at 7:31 capped the night's scoring, as freshman forward Rory Gagnon notched his first career goal, off of an assist from junior forward Truman Landowski.

Sophomore goaltender Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) piled up 40 saves against 45 shots on goal, but was stuck with the loss (0-3-0) in net for Franklin Pierce, which was outshot on the night, 45-22. Sophomore netminder Evan Buitenhuis (1-1-0) stopped all 22 shots he faced at the other end to notch his second career shutout for Hamilton.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Nov. 24, when they travel to Westfield State for a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7:35 p.m. at Amelia Park Ice Rink in Westfield, Mass.
