Langevin, McGuckin Lead Men’s Ice Hockey Over Daniel Webster on Road, 2-0

Glynn adds empty-netter

NASHUA, N.H. (January 30, 2016) – Sophomore forward Anthony Langevin (Albany, N.Y.) had the game-winning goal in the second period and sophomore goaltender Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) notched a 27-save shutout on Saturday night to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team to a 2-0 win over Daniel Webster in non-conference play at Conway Arena.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-14-2, while Daniel Webster falls to 3-15-0. For Franklin Pierce, it was the first shutout since Pat Dunn stopped 33 shots to blank Assumption, 1-0, at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena on Nov. 10, 2012.

After the first period went scoreless on Saturday, Langevin scored the only goal the Ravens would need at the 5:29 mark of the second stanza. His second goal of the season would come as he finished off a 2-on-1 rush with sophomore forward Blake Manginell (Troy, Mich.), who contributed the primary assist. Senior defenseman Dan Gibbons (Quincy, Mass.) -- who now has five points in the last five games (2-3-5) -- picked up an assist on the play as well.

The Langevin tally would effectively be the only goal which factored in the decision at Conway Arena, as the only other scoring would be a late empty-net goal. Despite being shorthanded, the Eagles resorted to pulling the goalie with time winding down, which allowed senior forward Brendan Glynn (Quincy, Mass.) to tack on an empty-net, power-play marker at the 19:17 mark of the third. Junior defenseman Alex Schleper (Sutton, Mass.) and senior forward Matt Batis (Lakewood, N.Y.) had the assists on Glynn's fourth goal of the season.

McGuckin (2-6-2) stopped all 27 shots on his goal to pick up his first collegiate shutout between the pipes for Franklin Pierce. At the other end of the ice, freshman netminder Morgan Hudson (2-9-0) made 32 saves against 33 shots in a losing effort in the crease for Daniel Webster.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Feb. 2, when they travel to Stonehill for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Foxboro Sports Center in Foxboro, Mass.
