BROCKPORT, N.Y. (February 7, 2015) – Junior goaltender Kyle Moran (Marshfield, Mass.) chalked up a career-best 52 saves on Saturday night, but the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team suffered a 5-2 defeat on the road at Brockport in non-conference play at Tuttle North Ice Arena. Freshman forward Aidan Verbeke scored a shorthanded goal and added an assist in the win for Brockport.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-17-0 (2-5-0 Northeast-10) and has now lost eight in a row, while Brockport improves to 10-9-2 (4-6-2 SUNYAC).

Moran's performance in net was his first career 50-save outing, as well as the 11th such performance in program history. It was the second 50-save game of the season for Franklin Pierce, as Tom McGuckin piled up 53 saves at Salve Regina on Dec. 5. Moran was still saddled with the loss (1-7-0) for the Ravens, as his 52 saves came against 57 shots.

Brockport scored all three of the first period's goals on Saturday night and never looked back. Freshman forward Ryan Kangas opened the scoring at the 9:08 mark, with his fifth of the season, off an assist from freshman forward Zac Sikich.

The Ravens were able to hold the Golden Eagles' power play to one goal in nine opportunities on the night, with that strike coming at the 11:25 mark to double the lead to 2-0. Sophomore forward Jake Taylor's fourth of the campaign came off of helpers from sophomore defenseman Rob Hall and senior forward Troy Polino.

Junior forward Kody Vaisanen capped the first-period scoring with the eventual game-winning goal at 16:22. Freshman forwards David Horan and Matt Meredith had the assists on Vaisanen's third of the year.

For its part, the Franklin Pierce power play went 2-for-7, but surrendered Verbeke's shorthanded marker as well. The Ravens struck on the man-advantage at the 7:36 mark of the second period to cut the gap to 3-1. Sophomore forward Brett Oldaker (Canonsburg, Pa.) put away his second of the season, while junior forward Paddy Murphy (York, Maine) and freshman forward Blake Manginell (Troy, Mich.) provided the assists.

Just under 10 minutes later, at 17:15, Verbeke picked up Brockport's third shorthanded goal of the season. Hall notched his second assist of the night on Verbeke's third goal of the campaign.

The two teams traded third-period goals to create the 5-2 final. First, at the 1:07 mark, sophomore forward Andrew Parks pushed the lead to 5-1 with his third of the season, off of assists from freshman forward Dylan Shapiro and Verbeke. Later, at 18:53, Franklin Pierce capitalized on a two-man advantage, as freshman forward Anthony Langevin (Albany, N.Y.) scored his first career goal, with sophomore forward Michael Marchionda (Hyde Park, Mass.) providing the lone assist.

Junior goaltender Jared Lockhurst made 18 saves against 20 shots to pick up the win (2-4-2) in goal for Brockport.
