Ravens have open weekend before traveling to SUNY Canton Feb. 14-15

Oldaker Oldaker had one of the Ravens' two power-play goals on Thursday night at Stonehill.

FOXBORO, Mass. (February 6, 2014) – Senior defenseman Roman Malyshev (Moscow, Russia) and freshman forward Brett Oldaker (Canonsburg, Pa.) each scored power-play goals on Thursday night, but the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision at Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play at Foxboro Sports Center. Senior forward Bryan Rooney had two goals and an assist in the win for Stonehill.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-15-2 (2-7-1 Northeast-10), while Stonehill improves to 13-9-0 (8-0-0 Northeast-10). The win wrapped up a three-game sweep for Stonehill in the season series between the two teams.

Stonehill scored the only two goals of the first period to jump to a 2-0 lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way. First, at the 3:16 mark, sophomore defenseman Travis Army struck for his fourth goal of the season, off an assist from sophomore forward Thomas DePoalo. Later, at 14:10 with the Skyhawks on the power play, Rooney put home his team-leading 11th of the season, while sophomore defenseman Connor Fallon and Army provided the helpers.

Franklin Pierce got on the board 6:15 into the second period on its own man advantage. Malyshev potted his second of the season, unassisted.

Stonehill answered at 13:38 as junior forward Kevin Aufiero put away the eventual game-winning goal. Rooney had the lone assist on Aufiero's seventh of the campaign.

The Skyhawks pushed the lead as high as 4-1 at 10:29, when Rooney completed his three-point outing with his second goal of the night. Freshman forward Garrett White and junior defenseman Brendan Greene added the assists on Stonehill's final score of the game.

The Ravens capped the scoring and created the 4-2 final with five minutes to play in the third, with their second power-play marker of the evening. Oldaker scored his fourth of the season, off assists from freshman forward Aaron Blaker (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) and senior defenseman Kyle Craig (Quincy, Mass.), at the 15:00 mark.

Senior goaltender Dave O'Brien (Groton, Mass.) made 32 saves in net for Franklin Pierce, but suffered the loss (2-12-1). Junior Chris Tasiopoulos stopped 22 shots at the other end to pick up the win (11-5-0) between the pipes for Stonehill.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Feb. 14, when they travel to SUNY Canton for the first game of a two-game, non-conference, weekend series. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Roos House in Canton, N.Y. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Wednesday, Feb. 19, against Southern New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
