Craig Scores Twice as Men’s Ice Hockey Skates to 3-3 (OT) Tie at Framingham State
Craig Craig had his first collegiate multiple-goal game at Framingham State on Tuesday night.

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (January 28, 2014) – Senior defenseman Kyle Craig (Quincy, Mass.) notched his first career multiple-goal game on Tuesday night, to help the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team build a 3-1 lead through two periods at Loring Arena. However, Framingham State forced overtime and a 3-3 tie in the non-conference affair, as junior forward Ryan McDonald and senior defenseman Robert Driscoll had a goal and an assist each, with the former figuring in on both goals in the third-period rally.

With the tie, Franklin Pierce now stands at 4-12-2 (2-4-1 Northeast-10), while Framingham State moves to 7-7-3 (5-4-2 Massachusetts State).

Franklin Pierce built a 2-0 lead in the first period. First, at the 6:24 mark, sophomore forward Brendan Glynn (Quincy, Mass.) put home a power-play goal to open the scoring. Sophomore forward Matt Batis (Lakewood, N.Y.) had the lone assist on Glynn's third goal of the season. Later, at 12:20, Craig put away the first of his pair, with his second of the campaign. Freshman defenseman Matthew Geib (Cleveland, Ohio) picked up the helper on the play.

Framingham State killed off a penalty early in the second stanza and got a power-play of its own at the 8:19 mark. The Rams needed just three seconds to convert, as Driscoll found his third of the season at 8:22, off assists from junior forward Brendan McCarron and senior forward Daniel Miressi.

Franklin Pierce reclaimed the two-goal lead at 3-1 in the middle frame's final minute. Craig struck again, this time unassisted, at 19:31.

Framingham State took a penalty with eight seconds to play in the second period, which left Franklin Pierce with 1:52 of power-play time on fresh ice looking for an insurance marker to start the third. Instead, the Rams would cut the gap to 3-2 with a shorthanded score from McDonald. Driscoll dished out the lone assist on McDonald's eighth of the year. McDonald added an assist to complete his two-point night just under 11 minutes later, on the game-tying goal. He set up the team-leading 11th of the season for senior forward Eric Ward at 11:22.

The final 8:38 of regulation and all five minutes of overtime went without further scoring as the teams both skated away with a 3-3 draw.

Both offenses piled up shot attempts throughout the night, as Framingham State posted a slim, 45-44 edge. Sophomore goaltender Kyle Moran (Marshfield, Mass.) got the start in net for Franklin Pierce and piled up a career-high 42 saves on the way to the tie (2-3-1). Freshman Alessio Muggli (1-0-1) made 41 saves at the other end of the ice for Framingham State.

The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they return home to host Stonehill in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 8 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
