Dallaire Scores Lone Goal, Men’s Ice Hockey Blanks Assumption, 1-0

Dunn notches 33-save shutout

Dallaire Dallaire's goal on Saturday night against Assumption was the 15th of his career.

WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 10, 2012) – Senior forward Adam Dallaire (Waltham, Mass.) scored the game's only goal in the second period and senior goaltender Pat Dunn (Quincy, Mass.) stopped all 33 shots he faced on Saturday night to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team to a 1-0 win over Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference play at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Junior goaltender Bobby Bowden made 31 saves in a losing effort for Assumption.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-1-0 (1-0-0 Northeast-10), while Assumption falls to 1-5-0 (0-1-0 Northeast-10). It is the first of three meetings between the two teams on the season, with the Ravens now needing just one win in the other two contests to claim the two points in the Northeast-10 standings for winning the season series.

The entirety of the first period went without a goal, but Dallaire struck early in the middle stanza for what would wind up as the only goal of the evening. A breakout pass sprung Dallaire through the neutral zone and down the right wing with a head of steam. When he got to the top of the circle, he wound and fired a shot which missed over the top of the net. As Bowden spun to his right to watch the expected rebound into the left-wing corner, the shot struck a stanchion in the glass behind the net and popped right back to Dallaire instead, who by now was at the bottom of the right-wing circle. Bowden made a sprawling attempt to get back in position, but to no avail, as Dallaire slipped his first goal of the season into the empty net.

Neither team was hurting for scoring chances on the night, as Assumption held a slim, 33-32, edge in shots on goal when all was said and done. Perhaps the Greyhounds' best opportunity of the game came just 69 seconds into the third period and nearly tied the game. Dunn had already made one save against senior forward Keven Meehan on the shift, and Meehan continued to buzz around the goal at the bottom of the right wing circle. Meehan appeared to have the entire net to shoot at, as a pinpoint, cross-slot pass beat Dunn across the crease and found Meehan's stick. However, Dunn, a left-handed catch, dove across the goalmouth and snared Meehan's one-time attempt out of the air with his glove to preserve the 1-0 lead and the shutout.

Assumption would pull Bowden for 31 seconds in the final minute of play in favor of the extra attacker, but the Greyhounds were never able to find the tying goal.

For Dunn, the whitewashing marked the first shutout of his collegiate career, as he picked up the win (2-1-0). Bowden took the hard-luck loss (1-4-0) in net for Assumption.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Nov. 16, when they remain home to host SUNY Canton in a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
