Plis Finishes Second, Nabs All-New England Honors as Men’s Golf Places Second at NEIGA Championship

Dylan Plis

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 23, 2017) Franklin Pierce University men's golfer Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) earned a spot on the All-New England Team as the Ravens finished second as a team at the 83rd Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Division II Championship hosted by The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) is a non-profit organization, which was first organized in 1934 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Mass. With the exception of the World War II years of 1941-45, it has maintained both individual and team championships annually. It is believed to be the largest gathering of collegiate players from NCAA Divisions I, II and III competing at the same location on a 36-hole layout.

The men's squad second place finish was their best in program history bettering the third-place showing during the 2014-15 season. FPU totaled a 605 (+29) across the two rounds on the par 72 course while shooting a 302 (+14) Sunday and a 303 (+15) Monday. Fellow Northeast-10 Conference program Bentley University brought home the Division II title as they shot a combined 590 (+14) and Assumption College, who were tied with the Ravens yesterday, dropped to third at 609 (+33).

Plis became the first Raven since Travis Landry in 2015 to snag All-New England honors. The freshman golfed a consistent 72 (E) over both days to finish even at 144 and in a tie for second place individually with Michael Pilkington of the College of Saint Rose. Cal Myers of Bentley bettered Plis by one stroke to take home the individual championship.

Sophomore Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) tied for 11th with three golfers from Saint Anselm College as he turned in a 152 (+8) scorecard. Senior Taylor Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) finished 20th individually as he bettered his first day showing 78 (+6) by one stroke 77 (+5) on Monday.

Sophomores Liam Donohue (Vernon, Conn.) and Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) traveled with the team to Brewster and completed two-round totals of 158 (+14) and 161 (+17) respectively.

The Ravens return to the links in the spring for the final portion of their 2017-18 schedule.
