Men’s Golf Places Second at Season Opening FPU Fall Invite

KEENE, N.H. (September 11, 2017) The Franklin Pierce University men's golf team hit the links for the first time since their trip to the 2017 Division II East/Atlantic Regional as they hosted nine other squads at the Keene Country Club for the FPU Fall Invitational this past Sunday and Monday.

After concluding their first 18 holes on Sunday, the Ravens jumped a spot in the team standings to finish second out of the 10 teams at 598 (+22) which is the first sub-600 two-day total in team history. The Crimson and Grey played a whole lot better on Monday as it was less windy than Sunday as they dropped 10 strokes off their total team score.

Fellow Northeast-10 Conference program Southern New Hampshire University, took home the team title at 594 (+18) while Sam Riemer shot an even 144 en route to capturing the individual medalist honor. Saint Thomas Aquinas College fell to third place as they tacked on 15 strokes to their day one total.

Sophomore Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) placed second overall at 147 (+3) as he was just three strokes behind the clubhouse leader. He led all players in par-4 scoring at 4.05 (+1), ranked third out of the entire field in total pars (23) and took off five strokes from his first 18 score to golf a second round 71 (-1). Joining Foster in the top-10 is newcomer Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) who tied for fourth at 149 (+5). Team captain Tom Arisco (Cheshire, Conn.) tied for seventh place at 150 (+6) and ranked fifth in total birdies (6). Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) and Taylor Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) rounded out the Raven scoring with 161 (+17) and 164 (+20) showings.

Individually, Liam Donohue (Vernon, Conn.) tied for 12th place as he lost a stroke on day two to turn in a 153 (+9) scorecard. Donohue led all players in total pars (26). Nate Goldsnider (Bolton, Conn.) golfed a 160 (+16) in a tie for 29th while Anthony Vincequere (Millbury, Mass.) tied for 36th at 163 (+19). Jason Vadnais (Arundel, Maine) (174, +30) and Chris Strange (South Glastonbury, Conn.) (175, +31) dropped a combined 15 strokes from their cards while Mike Waisnor (Lynnfield, Mass.) who withdrew from competition on Sunday, shot an 99 (+27) on Monday.

The Ravens head back to the course on Monday, September 18th when they travel to SNHU and the Hanover Country Club.
