Raven Golf Dominates the Links in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 10, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University golf programs traveled to West Chester, Pa. for the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational at the Penn Oaks Golf Club on Sunday and Monday. The women's program led by co-medalist Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) and Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) won their third invitational this season while the men's program placed fourth, their highest finish of the season.

The top-three finish was the seventh of the campaign for the Raven women as they remained in the top spot (671, +103) the whole weekend. The men's squad climbed the leaderboards after day one as they moved up one spot from fifth to fourth (617, +49) as they dropped three strokes off their first day mark.

For the women, Northeast-10 Conference opponent Merrimack College finished one stroke behind the Ravens at 672 (+104). Gannon University rounded out the top-three with a 680 (+112) showing. On the men's side, Davis & Elkins College brought home the team title at 605 (+37) while NE10 foe Le Moyne College (614, +46) and host West Chester (616, +48) finished second and third respectively.

Morrison medaled for the fifth time this season and for the third time in the last four invitational. Morrison shot a 159 (+17) and wrapped up the first day at 77 (+6) on the par 71, 5,809 yard course. Yamamoto jumped from third to a tie with Morrison after shooting a second round total of 159 (+17) and a 78 (+7) on day one. This was the second time this season Yamamoto earned medalist honors and her third top-five finish.

Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) notched a top-20 finish as she turned in her scorecard at 174 (+32), Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) golfed a 179 (+37) and Sydney Caron (Gorham, Maine) (216, +74) were crucial to the Raven success.

Taylor Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) led the charge for the men's program as he finished in fifth place, his best finish of the year at 151 (+9), dropped one stroke off his first day score and improved his spot in the standings by five. Freshman standout Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) fell one place to a tie for 11th at 154 (+12). Liam Donahue (Vernon, Conn.) completed the two days at 158 (+16) and he was followed by Keeton Foster (Chesterfield, N.H.) and team captain Tom Arisco (Cheshire, Conn.) who stroked a 161, +19 apiece.

The men's team will return to action on Friday at Le Moyne and women's squad will travel to Saint Rose in two weeks for their second to last competition
