Men’s golf with strong showing at Saint Rose Shootout, finish second
GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (October 11, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce men's golf team shot lights out for the second consecutive day on Saturday, as they finish in second place out of twelve teams at the Saint Rose Fall Shootout held at the Pinehaven Country Club. The Ravens would fall just short, finishing five strokes behind winners Southern New Hampshire.
Leading the way for the Ravens on Saturday was recently named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week, freshman John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) who carded a 73, giving him a second top five finish in consecutive tournaments. The team low score on the day came from junior Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.) who backed up a score of 80 on Friday with a season-best 72 on Saturday. Junior Nick Adjutant (Rochester, N.H.), freshman Hunter Byram (Coventry, Conn.), and junior Sean Shepard (Griswold, Conn.) all carded low 80's to round out their weekends, with Adjutant finishing with 80, Byram an 81, and Shepard with an 82.
Final results of the weekend put Abbott tied for fourth with a 77/73/150, Auclair tied for eighth with an 80/72/152, Adjutant 16th with a 75/80/155, Byram tied for 17th with a 75/81/156, and Shepard tied for 30th with a 79/82/161.
Southern New Hampshire won the team competition, with both Jake Nutter and John Clancy finishing atop the board, with Nutter taking the individual competition by shooting a 73/73/146 on the weekend, only one stroke ahead of Clancy who finished with a 72/75/147. After Franklin Pierce in second. Saint Rose finished third, followed by LeMoyne, Dowling, Bentley, Assumption, Saint Anselm, Felician, Saint Michael's, Dominican, and Sage.
The Ravens take back to the links on Sunday, October 26-27 for the NEIGA Fall Championship held at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
