Auclair Cards Low Round of 72; Men’s Golf Third After First Day at Plante Invitational

Three Ravens shoot in the 70s

Adjutant Adjutant sits in a five-way tie for fourth after the first day of the Joe Plante Invitational.

CHARLTON, Mass. (September 7, 2014) – Junior Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.) shot the lowest round of the day on Sunday, a one-over 72, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's golf team in its season-opening action at the Joe Plante Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Assumption at Heritage Country Club. The Raven five combined to card a 306, which leaves Franklin Pierce third of five teams after the first round of the two-day tournament.

After the first day of play, Franklin Pierce sits seven shots behind first-place American International (299) and five shots in back of second-place Bentley (301). Behind the Ravens are the host Greyhounds (316), and Dominican (N.Y.) (327).

Three of Franklin Pierce's five golfers finished in the 70s for Sunday's opening round, as Auclair was joined by junior Nick Adjutant (Rochester, N.H.), who fired a 75 (+4) and is tied for fourth, and freshman Hunter Byram (Coventry, Conn.), who finished with a 76 (+5) and is tied for ninth. Freshman John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) and junior Sean Shepard (Griswold, Conn.) rounded out the Ravens' participation with scores of 83 (+12) and 84 (+13), respectively.

Individually, Auclair holds a one-shot lead over AIC's Austin Ball (73), who is one shot in front of Bentley's Malcolm Oliver (74). Four players join Adjutant in the five-way tie at 75: Matt Freitag of Bentley, Kyle Gilman of Assumption and both Miguel Siercke and Troy Miller of AIC.

The Joe Plante Collegiate Invitational concludes with its second round on Monday at Heritage Country Club.
