Golf Sits in 14th Place out of 38 Teams Following Day One of NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 27, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s golf team turned in a solid opening-round, 315 (+27), on Sunday at the 2013 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Course – Starboard in Brewster, Mass. The Ravens are tied for 14th out of 38 teams in the standings.

The Ravens sit just three strokes out of the top-10 in the team standings heading into Monday’s final round. Franklin Pierce is in third place out of the Division II schools in the tournament, trailing only Bentley (T7th, 308, +20) and Saint Rose (13th, 314, +26).

Division I school Central Connecticut State leads the field after carding an even-par, 288, on Sunday. Franklin Pierce is tied with Division I member Holy Cross in 14th, while also ahead of another Division I member, Dartmouth, which sits in 29th place after day one.

Franklin Pierce was led in the opening round by sophomore Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.), who shot a solid five-over-par, 77, to sit in a tie for 37th place out of 189 competitors. He is seven strokes back of the leader, Central Connecticut’s Monte Mullen, who fired a 70 (-2) during the opening 18 holes.

Playing in his final NEIGA championship, senior Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) sits in a tie for 48th place heading into the final round after shooting a solid 78 (+6) on Sunday.

Junior Stew Wise (Angiers, N.C.) finished day one a stroke back of Spencer with a seven-over, 79, as he is tied for 65th heading to Monday’s last 18 holes.

The other two Ravens to compete in the tournament, included sophomore Sean Shepard (Griswold, Conn.), who shot an 81 (+9) on Sunday (T86th), and classmate Nick Adjutant (Rochester, N.H.), who carded an 83 (+11) to tie for 110th.

Monday’s final round will begin at 8 a.m.
