Solid Individual Scores Highlight Men's Golf Opening Round at Northeast Challenge

NEW LONDON, N.H. (September 14, 2013) – Three
Ravens logged rounds in the 70s on Saturday, but favorable
conditions at Lake Sunapee Country Club kept scores low, as the
Franklin Pierce men’s golf team sits in a tie for sixth place
out of eight teams at the Northeast Challenge in New London, N.H.
The Ravens are tied with Dowling after both teams carded
33-over-par, 313s, in the first round.
Bentley fired a 17-over, 297, to hold down the lead following the first 18 holes, while Southern New Hampshire shot a 299 (+19) to sit two shots back entering Sunday’s final round which will begin at 10 a.m.
The trio of Ravens carding rounds in the 70s was highlighted by sophomore Sean Shepard’s (Griswold, Conn.) opening round total of 75 (+5), as he sits in a tie for 10th place heading into Sunday. Shepard is seven shots back of American International’s Austin Ball, who carded a two-under, 68, on Saturday to sit in the individual lead.
Junior Stew Wise (Angiers, N.C.) followed Shepard by firing a seven-over, 77, to find himself in a tie for 17th place. Senior Adam Spencer (Jericho, Vt.) was the third Raven to post in the 70s, as he shot a 78 (+8) to tie for 20th after 18 holes.
The other two Ravens competing on the afternoon included sophomores Brad Auclair (Cumberland, R.I.) and Justin Brock (Latham, N.Y.), who fired 83 and 90, respectively, to sit in 38th and 43rd place.
