David Chadbourne enters his 24th season as head coach of the Franklin Pierce University men’s basketball team in 2022-23.

(2021-22) Chadbourne completed his 23rd season with the program in 2021-22 with distinction. The Northeast-10 "Coach of the Year" recipient led the Ravens to their first NE10 Championship appearance since the 2012-13 season, as well as their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in eight seasons. As a team, men's basketball ammassed an 18-11 overall record under Chadbourne, while going 12-7 against conference opponents, and finished with an dominant11-2 home record. 

Chadbourne previously served as the assistant coach of the men’s program under Art Luptowski and a three-year stint as bench boss of the women’s basketball program from 1996-1999. On the court, Chadbourne has amassed a 373-309 (.547) record including a 310-285 (.521) mark on the men’s side. On Saturday, January 4, 2020, Chadbourne earned his 300th career men’s basketball win with a 77-74 victory at home in The Fieldhouse against Saint Michael’s College.

In Rindge, Chadbourne has overseen the school’s transition into one of the nation’s elite Division II conferences. He has led the men’s basketball team to the postseason in 16 of his 22 seasons. In 2011-12, the Ravens (22-8, 18-4 NE10) were the conference regular-season champions and reached the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time under his tutelage. Chadbourne was named the NABC East Region Coach of the Year and the NE10 Coach of the Year for his efforts. The following campaign, 2012-13, the Ravens (24-9, 16-6 NE10) captured the NCAA Division II East Region Championship with a 57-52 victory versus the University of Bridgeport in Manchester, N.H advancing to the Elite 8 in Louisville, Ky. The following season in 2013-14 was the Ravens third consecutive 20 win season as they were 21-8, 15-6 NE10 as they reached the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.

Coach Chadbourne's eye for talent has been proven as he has produced numerous players who have combined to earn 33 All-Northeast-10 Conference accolades, six Daktronics, and seven NABC All-Region selections. He also has coached one NCAA Division II East Regional All-Tournament team selection as well as two NABC All-Americans (Donald Johnson, 2001 & Jean-Guillaume, 2012 & 2013).

Chadbourne has also coached several other teams at Franklin Pierce, serving as baseball coach in 1996 and 1998, softball coach in 1995, and the men's and women's tennis coach in 1993 and 1994. In 1993, he led the men's tennis team to the NECC title and a runner-up spot in 1994.

Before joining the Franklin Pierce men’s basketball coaching staff in 1991, Chadbourne was an assistant basketball and baseball coach at his alma mater, St. Joseph's College, in Standish, Maine, for four years. A standout player for the Monks, Chadbourne established single-season (253, 1986) and career (756) school records in assists and assists per game (single season, 8.4 APG, 1986) (career 6.8 APG) while he ranks 19th all-time on St. Joe's all-time scoring list with 1,285 points. In his senior year, the Monks became the first team in New England to advance to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. He led St. Joseph's to more than 100 wins in his playing career. Chadbourne was honored by his alma mater in the fall of 2001 when he was inducted into the Saint Joseph's College Athletics Hall of Fame.

A native of Claremont, Calif., Chadbourne has three daughters, Madison, a Doctor of Physical Therapy in Nashua, N.H., Katherine a 2018 graduate of Saint Joseph’s, and Grace, who is currently a senior at Saint Joseph’s.
