This Franklin Pierce University men's basketball recap is presented by Belletetes

RINDGE, N.H. (November 14, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University men's basketball sophomore guard Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) poured in a career-high 15 points, but Caldwell University hung on for a four-point, 95-91 victory in non-conference action Wednesday evening at the Newman Center. The win sends the Cougars to 2-1 overall and the Ravens drop to 1-2 with the setback.

Fasoyiro started for only the second time this season as he buried 4-of-8 (50.0%) of his shot attempts. He also handed out five assists grabbed three rebounds and recorded a match-high four steals. 13 of Fasoyiro's 15 markers were scored in the second stanza. Teammate Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) continued his strong start to his junior campaign scoring a team-best 17 points to go along with six caroms and two blocks. The team captain connected on 5-of-8 (62.5%) from the floor and 4-of-5 (80.0%) beyond the arc. Fellow starter, junior Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.) tallied 14 points for Pierce.

Reigning Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) produced 11 points, a game-high seven assists and five caroms in 30 minutes off the bench. Junior forward Jameson Pierrelus (Martin County, Fla.) made some big shots for the Ravens down the stretch finishing with 11 points including a 3-of-6 (50.0%) showing from long range. All 11 of Pierrelus' points came in the second half.

All five starters reached double-digits for the Cougars. Ahmad Harrison led all players with a game-best 20 points. Ned Ogoemesim totaled 18 markers, five boards, and two assists.

The Ravens shot a higher percentage from the hardwood and from deep, but Caldwell took 54 trips to the charity stripe compared to 19 for FPU. The Pierce reserves outscored the hosts bench by a 42-to-16 margin however, the Cougars tallied more points off Raven turnovers (30).

Pierce's largest lead of the showdown was by three, 31-28 at the 5:38 mark in the first quarter when Moore drained a jump shot erasing an early 11-4 Raven deficit. Vaughn Covington tipped home a Harrison missed jumper to grow the Cougars second-half edge to seven with just under 15 minutes to go. A minute later, Covington knocked in two freebies to grow the host's advantage to a game-high nine, 55-46.

Back-to-back treys from Fasoyiro brought the Ravens within one 69-68. Seck and Moore reestablished the three-point Raven lead at 78-75 at the 4:45 mark. Over the next couple of Raven possessions, Pierrelus kept the Ravens in the game via a layup and a three-ball to bring the score to 84-83 with 2:34 left to play. Four straight by Caldwell at the line upped their advantage to two possessions 88-83 with 39 ticks left on the clock. Pierrelus continued his stretch of eight consecutive points by knocking down another trey taking just five seconds off the clock and cutting the margin to 88-86.

The Ravens constantly fouled the Cougars players as an effort to stay in the game and it worked for the time being. Fasoyiro drove the lane for an easy two and sophomore guard Sam van Oostrum (Sheffield, England) connected on a three to once again bring it to a one-point battle with 13 seconds left. AJ Kittles reached the line and split the backend of his free throws. van Oostrum had a wide open chance to win the game for the Ravens, but his game-winner was off the mark.

The Ravens remain away from campus on Saturday for a non-league contest with LIU Post at 3:30 p.m.
