MANCHESTER, N.H. (November 10, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University men's basketball junior guard Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) recorded a double-double with a team-high 18 points and a game-best 12 rebounds as the Ravens suffered a season-opening 94-67 setback to Dominican (N.Y.) College during the opening day of the SNHU Tournament Saturday evening at the Stan Spirou Field House. The Chargers start the season at 1-0 while the Ravens fall to 0-1 with the defeat.

The team captain came out firing in the first half knocking down 7-of-10 (70%) of his attempts from the hardwood including a 2-for-3 (66.7%) performance from deep. However, he couldn't carry over his stroke into the second half (1-of-7, 0-for-3 3PT) as the Charger defensive unit keyed in on him. Fadojutimi finished the game with two steals and one block as well.

Freshman guard Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) shined in his collegiate debut in 26 minutes off the bench. Moore led all bench players with 13 points on 6-of-11 (54.5%) shooting to go along a game-high four steals. Graduate forward Jeremy Arthur (Westbury, N.Y.) chipped in nine points, two boards, one assist, and one steal.

For the Chargers, guard Daraja Rodwell manufactured a game-high 26 points with five caroms, three helpers and three steals. Backcourt partner Daniel Grant totaled 14 markers, four thefts, four boards, and two assists as well.

Dominican capitalized on the Ravens mistakes turning 23 miscues into 31 points. They also held the shooting percentage advantage (50.0% to 40.6%) and reached the charity stripe more frequently than their counterparts (28 FT attempts to 10).

Fadojutimi began the men's season by drilling in a three-ball from the right wing to give the Ravens a three-point advantage early. Dominican eventually tied the game at 7-7 when Sayon Charles buried two attempts at the line. The Ravens took the first double-digit advantage of the game by going on a 15-5 scoring spurt to jump in front 22-12. FPU used ferocious defense collecting a steal apiece by Arthur, Moore, and Fadojutimi which all resulted in fast break buckets on the opposite end of the court. Fadojutimi also stuffed one driving layup to the rack and poured in nine of the Ravens 15 points on the run.

Halfway through the first, two Jonathan Garcia freebies cut the Raven advantage to two possessions at 28-23. A Lolami Lola-Charles (Aberdeen, Md.) hoop and harm off a Moore dish, a Moore floating baseline runner and a Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) drive reestablished the Ravens double-digit lead and capped off a run of seven consecutive markers giving them a game-high 12 point 35-23 edge.

Dominican crawled back as their defense forced FPU into tough shots allowing only five points over the final 8:29 of the stanza. The Chargers 17-2 run gave the designated away team a three-point lead 40-37. Arthur stopped the bleeding by ringing home a corner trey to tie the score 40-40. Daraja Rodwell tacked on a fast break two to cap the first half scoring.

Moore picked off an intended pass and went uncontested to the rack for an easy two for the Ravens opening points of the second half as the Crimson and Grey trailed 45-42. Moore dumped in another floater this time by the right elbow to make it a four-point game 48-44. Jonathan Garcia gobbled up an offensive rebound off a Sayon Charles miss to expand the Charger advantage to 52-44 a couple of possessions later Daraja Rodwell threw an outlet pass to Garcia who burned past the Raven defense for a fast-break lay-in to move Dominican ahead by double figures for the first time, 54-44. The Chargers lead grew to 18, 63-45 due in part to a 21-5 second half-opening scoring binge.

With 7:40 to play, the Ravens notched back-to-back three-balls from Fasoyiro by the right wing and a catch and shoot money ball by Moore on the left wing to bring their deficit down to 12, 67-55. The teams swapped three balls as Rodwell knocked one down from the top of the key. Raven freshman Jameson Pierrelus (Martin County, Fla.) collected a loose ball offensive board, set his feet and swished home an attempt at the top of the point to once again make it a 12 point Raven deficit.

The Ravens took a timeout and Dominican cashed in a mid-range jumper, which took a kind bounce. Moore was then aggressive bringing the rock up the court and drew a foul slashing through the right side and kissing the ball off the glass, however, he missed the free throw as the Ravens still were behind by 12.

Dominican would close the game on a 22-7 run to take the showdown.

Franklin Pierce travels back to SNHU tomorrow for a 6:00 p.m. battle with the New York Institute of Technology.
