Late Surge Not Enough as Golden Falcons Defeat Ravens

RUTHERFORD, N.J. (November 27, 2016) – Junior forward Mike McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) matched a personal-best with 23 points on a 10-of-15 (66.7%) shooting performance as the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team dropped their third straight game by a 85-79 score to non-conference opponent Felician University on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Ravens drop to 2-4 on the year and the win, their fourth in a row, improves the Golden Falcons to 4-3.

McDevitt tallied 23 points two previous times in his career both against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The first came versus SNHU on November 24, 2015 and he matched that scoring output at American International on January 13, 2016.

The junior also snagged a team-best six rebounds, handed out two assists and came up with two steals. Team captain Donte Gittens (Hartford, Conn.) scored 17 points while dishing out six helpers, grabbing four rebounds and blocking four shots.

Leading the way for Felician was sophomore forward Terrell Spaulding who played all 40 minutes of the game en route to a game-high 28 points and 15 rebounds. The double-double was his third of the season and 16 of his 28 points came in the second half.

FPU forced the hosts into 16 turnovers and capitalized with 22 points off the giveaways. The Ravens also won the battle down low as they scored 36 points in the paint to the hosts 26. Felician held a 22 point lead at one point in the contest, before the Ravens stormed back in the second stanza.

The Ravens held a one point lead about 30 seconds into the contest as Gittens split a pair of freebies. That was the only time the guests held the lead in the game.

The host's 22 point lead was matched in the contest following two free throws from Zamir Wright. Right before the break, Bryant Webb connected on a runner to put his squad up 53-36 at the halfway point.

Up by 19, FPU staged a comeback attempt with a 13-2 run, McDevitt scored nine points during the scoring binge which put the Ravens down eight, 62-54 with 13:52 left to play. On the next Golden Falcon possession, Gjaimeir Stanford ended the run with an old fashioned three point play to regain momentum back to their side.

Five straight due to a Spalding three-ball and jumper put Felician up 70-56 with 9:34 left. A 12-2 Ravens run ensued as McDevitt and Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.) buried jumpers, Jordan Lackey (South Plainfield, N.J.) rolled in a layup and Dustin Cole (Standish, Maine) and Seck connected from three-point land to come within four at 72-68.

As time ticked away, the Ravens came within four points numerous times, but never could cut the deficit to one possession.

The Ravens return home to the Fieldhouse on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest versus Northeast-10 Conference opponent Stonehill College.
