Men’s Basketball offense explodes for win against Saint Michael’s

RINDGE, N.H. (January 7, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce Men's Basketball team gave the Northeast-10 a wake-up call on Wednesday night, as the team shot just under 50 percent for the game, including hitting 17 three-pointers overall as the Franklin Pierce University Ravens defeated the Saint Michael's Purple Knights by a final score of 90-56. In opposition of Franklin Pierce's hot shooting, Saint Michael's only shot a shade over 32 percent for the game, only hitting two three-pointers all game for a final tally of 8.7 percent from behind the arc.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-5 overall (4-3 Northeast-10) while Saint Michael's falls to 8-4 (4-3 Northeast-10).

Franklin Pierce held control all throughout the first half, extending a lead to as big as 29 points with 5:24 remaining in the first half. In the second half, Franklin Pierce cooled off just a tad, however were able to extend their lead out to 36 points with under a minute to go before a jumper by Colin Ritchie gave the final score a 34 point spread.

Leading the way for Franklin Pierce was the duo of senior Ryen Vilmont (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Tyler Iacuone (Mahopac, N.Y.) as both finished with over 20 points. Vilmont hit eight of the Ravens 17 three-pointers for a total of 24 points, while Iacuone hit five threes of his own on his way to a total of 21 points for the game. Sophomore Donte Gittens (Hartford, Conn.) and senior Paul Becklens (Boston, Mass.) both finished with double-figure points as well, as Gittens tickled the twine for 15 points while Becklens chipped in 10.

Vilmont finished with a solid day on the floor as he also contributed eight rebounds and six assists, while Becklens finished one assist shy of a double-double with nine assists on the day. Freshman Lolami Lola-Charles (Edgewood, Md.) also contributed solid minutes of the bench, and was able to grab a solid six rebounds.

For Saint Michael's, both Corey Crawford II and James Cambronne each finished with a double-double apiece, as Crawford put a line of 10 points, 10 rebounds, while Cambronne finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds. Matt Bonds and Mike Holton, Jr. each finished with nine points apiece, while Bonds also chipped in eight rebounds.

The Ravens will return to action this Saturday, January 10th as the travel to Albany, N.Y. to take on the Saint Rose Golden Knights with a tip-off at 3:30 p.m.
