Vilmont drops 33, Men’s Basketball routs Mansfield 94-81

RINDGE, N.H. (November 30, 2014) – Senior Ryen Vilmont (Philadelphia, Pa.) knocked down 11-19 shots on the night, including shooting 8-16 from behind the three-point line to total a season-high 33 points as the Franklin Pierce Men's Basketball team defeated the Mansfield (Pa.) University Mountaineers by a final score of 94-81 in non-conference play at the Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, the Ravens improve to 5-2 overall (2-0 Northeast-10) while the Mountaineers fall to 3-2 (1-1 PSAC).

The game started out with the Ravens grabbing the lead right away, and never looked back. Vilmont found his stroke early, knocking down multiple three-pointers for a total of 20 points halfway through the first half, and end with a total of 25 after one half. The Ravens would enjoy their biggest lead of the day with nine minutes to go in the first half, as they led by as much as 25 points after a couple free throws made by senior Paul Becklens (Boston, Mass.). Franklin Pierce would continue their strong play and bring a 19 point lead into the half.

However, Franklin Pierce came out flat to begin the second half. Mansfield would spin off several good possessions where they were able to score, and also make stops on the Ravens. The Mountaineers would go on an 18-6 run to start the second half, and bring the Franklin Pierce lead down to six. The Ravens would respond by turning to sophomore Jaleel Bell (Boston, Mass.) who was able to knock down a three-pointer and a jumper in back-to-back possessions to bring the Ravens lead back to double-digits at 11. From there out, the Ravens would keep a consistent lead of at least 13 points through until the end of regulation.

Vilmont would add nine rebounds to his 33 point performance, while Bell and sophomore Donte Gittens (Hartford, Conn.) finished with a quiet 16 points and four rebounds apiece. Becklens would also contribute a solid 14 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Junior Tyler Iacuone (Mahopac, N.Y.) would chip in seven points, while four other Ravens chipped in two points apiece.

For Mansfield, senior Charles Pemberton would dominate the paint en route to a double-double with 27 points on 12-17 shooting, and 10 rebounds. Kamil Parzych rode a 6-9 night shooting, including three three-pointers for 16 points. Joe Bell would also dish out a team-high six assists. The Mountaineers dominated the paint, scoring 52 of their 81 points from inside the paint.

The Ravens return to the hardwood on this upcoming Wednesday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. as Franklin Pierce will take on Granite state rivals Southern New Hampshire in a battle of Northeast-10 foes at the Fieldhouse.
