SEAFORD, N.Y. (September 8, 2018) – For the second straight day, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team fell behind in the first half. On Saturday though, the Ravens were unable to erase the deficit in the second stanza. A 53^rd-minute goal from freshman forward Mary Clare Banholzer stood as the game-winner at Cedar Creek Park, as Lindenwood (Mo.) posted a 3-2 victory in neutral-site, non-conference play, hosted by Molloy College. Freshman midfielder Feline van Doorn (Barendrecht, Netherlands) and junior midfielder Jessica Greeley (Winslow, Maine) each scored in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-1, while Lindenwood improves to 3-1.

Much like Friday at Kutztown, Saturday's game was very much a tale of two halves. By the end of the proceedings, things were fairly balanced statistically, as Lindenwood held a 10-9 advantage in shot attempts and an 8-7 edge in shots on goal, while Franklin Pierce posted a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners. However, the first half was Lindenwood across the board, as the Lions enjoyed advantages of 6-1 in shots, 5-0 in shots on goal and 4-2 in penalty corners.

Lindenwood used those first-half advantages to build a 2-0 lead in the opening stanza. Junior midfielder Noor Fons opened the scoring in the 10^th minute, as she took a feed from fellow junior midfielder Jessie Londono and put away her second goal of the season. Londono followed up with her second goal of the season as well, in the 21^st minute, as she put away a penalty stroke to make it 2-0.

Just 2:02 on the other side of halftime, Franklin Pierce sliced the deficit to 2-1, in the 38^th minute. Off of a penalty corner, junior midfielder Allison Collins (Sandown, N.H.) set up the first collegiate goal for van Doorn.

Unlike Friday though, the Ravens would never draw even in the second half. Instead, Lindenwood lengthened the lead in the 53^rd minute. Londono picked up her second assist – and fourth point – of the day, as she set up Banholzer's first career goal.

Franklin Pierce created the 3-2 final with another penalty-corner goal in the 69^th minute, with just 61 seconds remaining. Greeley pulled the Ravens within one, with her first goal of the campaign, but Franklin Pierce could not generate any further scoring chances in the final minute, as Lindenwood held on for the victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Barnes (Greenwich, N.Y.) finished with five saves against eight shots on goal and suffered the loss (2-1) in net for Franklin Pierce. Three goalkeepers split time in the Lindenwood net, with senior Skylar Starbeck (3-0) earning the win after making three saves against four shots on goal over the opening 54:43.

The Ravens return to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 12, when they travel to Saint Michael's for a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Duffy Field in Colchester, Vt.
