Field Hockey’s Canavan Named as NE10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Finalist

Northeast-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award finalists

RINDGE, N.H. (May 23, 2018)Carly Canavan ’18 (Kingston, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been named as one of three finalists for the Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, as announced on Wednesday afternoon by the Conference office.

Each member of the 15-institution NE10 nominated one male and one female for the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. The field has been narrowed down to three finalists each for the male and female versions of the award. The winners will be announced as part of the league’s annual awards banquet on Monday, June 4, in Garden City, N.Y.

Canavan is a finalist for the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, alongside Rebecca Fakas of the Adelphi women’s tennis team and Alyssa Williamson of the Merrimack softball team. On the male side of things, the finalists are Julian Lipinski of Saint Rose (men’s basketball), Tyler McLaren of Southern New Hampshire (men’s cross country) and Thomas Bellio of Stonehill (men’s tennis).

Canavan graduated a semester early with a final grade-point average of 3.94, as a health sciences major. She finished her career as the field hockey program’s all-time leader in points (75), while also ranking second in goals (31) and tied for third in assists (13). Canavan is a two-time All-NE10 selection, a three-time NE10 Academic All-Conference Team selection and a seven-time selection to the NE10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Earlier this spring, she was named as the 2018 recipient of Franklin Pierce’s Richard Burns Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
