Field Hockey Drops Fifth Straight, Falls to Bentley, 1-0 (OT), on Senior Day

RINDGE, N.H. (October 22, 2016) – For the third straight outing, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team suffered a 1-0, overtime defeat at home on Sodexo Field. This time, Bentley was the beneficiary of an overtime marker, as freshman midfielder Sam Pavano scored 6:11 into the extra session to lift the Falcons to victory in the Northeast-10 Conference affair.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-12 (0-10 Northeast-10) and has lost five in a row, while Bentley improves to 6-9 (4-5 Northeast-10). The Ravens are now 0-5 in overtime games on the year and have lost all five by 1-0 margins. Franklin Pierce honored its four-player senior class before the start of the game, as it was the team's final home game of the season.

The only goal of the game came on one of the afternoon's only quality scoring chances. In the 77th minute, a failed Franklin Pierce clear would see the ball wind up with Pavano just inside of the circle on the right side, approximately 12 yards from goal. She had plenty of room to step into her shot from there and cleanly beat Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) for her fifth goal of the season.

Williams (3-12) finished with two saves against three shots on goal in net for Franklin Pierce. At the other end of the field, senior Evelyn Schaedel (4-5) made one save against two shots on goal to earn her second shutout of the season for Bentley, while senior midfielder Tori Ellis chipped in a defensive save along the way.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H.
