Field Hockey Dropped at No. 6 LIU Post, 8-0

Ravens host Mercy on Saturday

Zahensky BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (October 5, 2014) – Graduate student midfielder Dani Crouse had seven points on three goals and an assist, while junior forward Keliann Margiotta added six points on two goals and two assists on Sunday, as No. 6 nationally ranked LIU Post rolled to an 8-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. Sophomore goalkeeper Amy Zahensky (Bow, N.H.) made nine second-half saves in the loss for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-5 (0-2 Northeast-10), while LIU Post improves to 5-1 (1-0 Northeast-10).

Franklin Pierce was under siege throughout the game on Sunday, as LIU Post -- the national runner-up a year ago and the defending Northeast-10 champion -- controlled the run of play. The Pioneers were able to hold the Ravens without a shot attempt over the course of the game and used a 16-0 advantage in penalty corners to pile up advantages of 24-0 in shot attempts and 19-0 in shots on goal.

LIU Post would get the only goal it would need in the sixth minute, when senior forward Lyn-Marie Wilson put away a feed from Crouse for her first goal of the season. Crouse was just getting started for the Pioneers, as she scored twice later in the first half, in the 13th and 33rd minutes. Her goal in the 13th was unassisted and her first goal of the campaign as well, and in the 33rd, she finished off an assist from sophomore midfielder Steph Mocerino. In between Crouse's two scores, sophomore midfielder Lauren Adamusik put away her second goal of the year off a feed from Margiotta in the 24th minute.

Leading 4-0 at the break, LIU Post poured in four more goals in the second half to create the 8-0 final. Wilson finished her double in the 38th minute, while Margiotta added unassisted markers in the 39th and 42nd minutes to create her own multiple-goal day. Margiotta then set up the game's final goal, as Crouse capped her hat trick in the 62nd minute. For Crouse, it was her first career hat trick.

Freshman goalkeeper Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) started in net, made two saves against six shots on goal and took the loss (2-5) in net for Franklin Pierce. Zahensky took over for the second half and stopped nine of 13 shots on her cage in relief. For LIU Post, sophomore Ericka Parks and Meredith Stocklin combined for the shutout, but did not face a shot in the process. Parks played the first half and was credited with the win (4-0).

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 11, when they return home to host Mercy in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
