Liseno notches second defensive save

Liseno WORCESTER, Mass. (September 30, 2014) – Freshman goalkeeper Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) made six saves on Tuesday night, but was beaten once on either side of halftime, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to Assumption in non-conference play at Multi-Sport Stadium. Sophomore midfielder Andrea Koslowski factored on both goals with a goal and an assist for Assumption.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-4 (0-1 Northeast-10), while Assumption improves to 4-2 (0-0 Northeast-10). The two teams will meet again for their Northeast-10 Conference contest on Friday, Nov. 7 at Sodexo Field in Rindge.

Assumption piled up a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners on Tuesday night, which led to margins of 20-5 in shot attempts and 9-4 in shots on goal. Still, the Greyhounds could only solve Williams twice, and did so in a span of just 79 seconds, as they scored with 30 seconds to play in the first half and again 49 seconds into the second half.

First, junior forward Taylor Chase sent a penalty corner into play in the 35th minute and headed for the cage. Chase eventually had the ball returned to her by Koslowski, and Chase salted it away for her second goal of the season.

Coming out of halftime, the Greyhounds were awarded a penalty stroke in the 36th minute. Koslowski took the stroke and beat Williams for her first goal of the campaign.

Williams made six saves against eight shots on her cage and suffered the loss (2-4) for Franklin Pierce, while senior back Adria Liseno (Somersworth, N.H.) added her second defensive save of the season in the 28th minute, which kept the game scoreless at the time. At the other end of the field, senior Lauren Neilan stopped all four shots on goal to notch her first shutout of the season and pick up the win (4-2).

The Ravens return to the field on Sunday, Oct. 5, when they travel to LIU Post for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 11 a.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Saturday, Oct. 11 against Mercy at 1 p.m.
