MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 2, 2018) – A day after getting eight scoreless innings from a reliever in a tight game, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team took care of Saint Anselm with the bats on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The Ravens hammered out 13 hits on the day, including six as part of a nine-run eighth inning, on the way to a 15-3 win in Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast Division play at Sullivan Park. Senior center fielder Adam Chase (Bridgewater, Mass.) hit 4-for-4 with a grand slam, while sophomore second baseman James Boria (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 29-12-1 (18-6 NE10, 13-5 NE Div.), while Saint Anselm falls to 11-25 (5-17 NE10, 5-13 NE Div.). The victory allowed the Ravens to complete a three-game sweep of the season series against Saint Anselm for the fourth straight season.

The Ravens also announced a schedule change pertaining to their final regular season series against Saint Michael's. Franklin Pierce had been scheduled to travel to Saint Michael's for the three-game series on Thursday and Friday, but due to expected inclement weather, the games have been relocated to Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field in Rindge. The Ravens and Purple Knights will meet for a doubleheader on Thursday and a single game on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for noon on both days. Saint Michael's will play as the home team in all three contests.

On Wednesday, Franklin Pierce opened the scoring loudly in the top of the first inning. Sophomore shortstop Joe Napolitano (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) walked, senior third baseman John Friday (Southborough, Mass.) singled back up the middle, and graduate student first baseman Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was hit by a pitch, all of which loaded the bases for Chase with one away. Chase unloaded on the second pitch of his at-bat and drove a grand slam over the fence in left field. It was his fourth home run of the season, all of which have come in the last 10 games.

Saint Anselm cut the deficit in half with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Junior third baseman Tyler McKeon led off with a single back up the middle, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a double over the head of Chase in center by freshman second baseman Matthew Butigian. Butigian would score two batters later, on a two-out, RBI double to center by junior right fielder Connor Parent.

The Ravens pushed the lead out to 6-2 with single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. In the fifth, Friday reached on an infield single, moved to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a single by Chase and scored as senior designated hitter Stephen Octave (New Windsor, N.Y.) bounced into an RBI fielder's choice. In the seventh, Coggeshall led off and drove the second pitch of the inning over the fence in right-center for his second home run of the season.

Franklin Pierce then broke the game wide open by sending 12 men to the plate and pushing across nine runs against a pair of Saint Anselm pitchers in the top of the eighth. Boria -- who had already doubled and scored earlier in the inning -- capped the frame with a three-run home run to left field, which was his first collegiate homer. Also in the inning, junior left fielder Brad Roberto (San Diego, Calif.) drove a two-run double into the gap in left-center, senior right fielder Zack Tower (Auburn, Mass.) dumped a two-run single into left field, and Chase notched his fourth hit of the day with an RBI single to left. Except for Friday, every member of the Franklin Pierce lineup scored in the inning.

Saint Anselm picked up a run in the bottom half of the eighth to create the 15-3 final. Senior first baseman Dan Bodi led off with a single back up the middle and would eventually score when junior Vinnie Fortini bounced into an RBI fielder's choice as a pinch hitter.

Senior right-hander John Amendola (Wallingford, Conn.) threw 109 pitches (78 strikes) over the first seven innings on the mound for Franklin Pierce. He allowed two runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out four on the way to the win (6-1).

On the other side of the ledger, freshman left-hander Griffin St. Onge (0-1) took the ball for Saint Anselm and threw only the first inning before being removed. He needed 32 pitches (17 strikes) to get through the frame, was charged with four runs on two hits, walked one, hit a batter, struck out one and was ultimately tagged with the loss.
