Baseball Sports Six All-NE10 Selections, has Eight Honored by Conference

Northeast-10 All-Conference selections

RINDGE, N.H. (May 10, 2017) – An All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team selection for junior right-hander John Amendola (Wallingford, Conn.) highlights a slate of six All-Conference picks for the Franklin Pierce University baseball team, as announced on Wednesday by the Conference office. In all, the Ravens had eight players honored in the league's year-end awards.

Amendola was the lone First Team pick for the Ravens, who also boasted a trio of All-NE10 Second Team selections: junior right fielder Adam Chase (Bridgewater, Mass.), senior right-hander Cody McPartland (Sound Beach, N.Y.) and junior catcher Stephen Octave (New Windsor, N.Y.). Representing Franklin Pierce on the All-NE10 Third Team were junior first baseman Dalton Davis (Birmingham, Ala.) and junior third baseman John Friday (Southborough, Mass.). Freshman right-hander Derek Duffy (Farmington, Conn.) and freshman catcher Dylan Jones (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) were named to the All-Rookie Team.

Of the six All-NE10 picks, it is the first career All-Conference nod for all except McPartland, who was an All-East Coast Conference First Team selection at Dowling a year ago.

Amendola has been the team's most consistent starting pitcher, in terms of run-prevention, and has logged a team-high 71 innings on the mound over 11 appearances, including nine starts, three complete games and two shutouts. Through the end of the regular season, he ranked sixth in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings (1.01) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.0), 13th in ERA (1.65) and 17th in WHIP (0.96). Through the First Round of the NE10 Championship, among league pitchers, he is ranked fifth in ERA, tied for sixth in complete games, tied for seventh in strikeouts (64), tied for eighth in wins (6) and ranked 10th in innings pitched. Amendola has allowed just 16 runs (13 earned) on 60 hits and issued only eight walks on the way to a 6-3 record and one save.

Chase has played in 38 games, and made 36 starts, for the Ravens, primarily in right field and is the team's leading hitter, with a .354/.448/.476 slash line over 147 at-bats (52-for-147), primarily out of the two-hole. In the NE10, he ranks sixth in batting average, tied for sixth in runs scored (39), seventh in on-base percentage and 15th in hits (52). Chase has hit 10 doubles, one triple and two home runs while driving in 20 runs. He has drawn 19 walks and been hit by six pitches, against 17 strikeouts, and stolen seven bases in eight attempts.

In his lone season as a Raven after transferring in from Dowling, McPartland has put together another All-Conference performance to cap a strong collegiate career. Over 11 appearances, including nine starts, three complete games and one shutout, he has logged 69.2 innings, second on the team only to Amendola. Through the end of the regular season, McPartland ranked 11th in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.5) and 24th in strikeouts per nine innings (11.32). Among NE10 pitchers, he is currently ranked second in strikeouts per nine innings (10.85), is tied for third in wins (7) and strikeouts (84), is tied for sixth in complete games, is ranked eighth in ERA (2.07) and is ranked 11th in innings pitched. McPartland has surrendered 22 runs (16 earned) on 62 hits and issued just 13 walks on the way to a 7-0 record and one save.

Octave has hit in the cleanup spot for much of the season and slashed .330/.360/.483 over 176 at-bats (58-for-176) for the Ravens, while playing in 43 games, including 41 starts. In the NE10, he is currently ranked second in runs batted in (46), tied for sixth in hits, tied for eighth in total bases (85), tied for ninth in home runs (5), tied for 11th in extra-base hits (16) and ranked 15th in batting average and slugging percentage. Octave has tallied 10 doubles, one triple and five home runs. He has scored 28 runs, earned eight walks and one hit-by-pitch against 21 strikeouts, and stolen two bases in three attempts.

Hitting behind Octave most of the year has been Davis, who is in his first year with the Ravens after transferring in from Newberry College. He has started all 44 games for Franklin Pierce at first base and posted a .311/.399/.500 slash line through 164 at-bats (51-for-164). Within the NE10, Davis is ranked second in home runs (7), ranked ninth in runs batted in (34), tied for 10th in slugging percentage, tied for 11th in extra-base hits (16), ranked 13th in total bases (82) and tied for 15th in runs scored (33). His seven home runs lead the team, and he has added eight doubles and a triple along the way. Davis has worked 24 walks and been hit by two pitches against 43 strikeouts, and gone 5-for-9 in stolen bases.

Despite a .341/.405/.464 slash line which puts him as one of the team's top hitters, Friday finds himself justifiably on the Third Team amid a glut of solid third basemen in the Conference, which includes the NE10 Player of the Year, Zach Goldstein of Southern New Hampshire. Franklin Pierce's three-hole hitter, Friday has started all 44 games at third base and gone 61-for-179 with 11 doubles, one triple and three home runs. Within the NE10, he is ranked third in hits, ranked eighth in batting average and runs scored (38), tied for ninth in doubles and ranked 11th in total bases (83). Friday has drawn 19 walks and been hit by one pitch against 22 strikeouts while stealing nine bases in 10 attempts.

Though he has made only six appearances, including a pair of starts, Davis has provided important depth to the Franklin Pierce pitching staff over 17.1 innings of work. He has allowed eight runs (six earned) on 23 hits, walked five and struck out 14 on the way to a 3.12 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Jones has played in 29 games, including 28 starts, and has split time primarily between catcher and designated hitter. Through 113 at-bats (36-for-113), he has slashed .319/.361/.451, with eight doubles, two triples and a home run. Jones has scored 27 times, driven in 17 runs and accumulated 51 total bases. He has drawn four walks and been hit by four pitches against 23 strikeouts and has posted four stolen bases in seven attempts.

The Ravens (31-13) return to the field on Thursday, May 11, when they square off with Pace to open the double-elimination, weekend portion of the NE10 Championship. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Frank Vieira Field on the campus of the University of New Haven, in West Haven, Conn.
