LOS ANGELES (August 1, 2016) – With Vin Scully on the call and a crowd of 42,380 in attendance at a sun-splashed Dodger Stadium, Sunday afternoon was ripe for history, at least for the Franklin Pierce University baseball program. Left-handed pitcher Steve Hathaway became the first former Raven to make his Major League Baseball debut, when he tossed one-third of an inning for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

RINDGE, N.H. (July 11, 2016) – Senior right-hander Tanner Bird (Adams, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been named his sport’s Sport Excellence award winner by the Northeast-10 Conference, as announced earlier this month by the Conference office. In addition, Bird, teammate and senior shortstop Justin Brock (Latham, N.Y.), women’s golf sophomore Anna Haynes (Hopedale, Mass.), men’s lacrosse junior midfielder Nick Bradshaw (Westbury, N.Y.), women’s lacrosse senior midfielder Lauren Beville (Jamesville, N.Y.), men’s track & field junior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) and women’s track & field senior Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) have all earned Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honors. The selected Ravens were among a record 106 student-athletes across 10 sports honored by the Northeast-10.

(July 8, 2016) – Seven-time NCAA regional champion and six-time ABCA/Rawlings Region Coach of the Year Jayson King has tendered his resignation as head coach of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team, effective later this month, as announced on Friday by the institution. In a corresponding move on Friday, Director of Athletic Bruce Kirsh has appointed assistant coach Mike Chambers as the program’s interim head coach for the 2016-17 academic year.

(June 11, 2016) – Senior right-hander Paul Covelle (Medford, Mass.) of the East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team was selected on Saturday afternoon by the Seattle Mariners in the 27th round (807 overall) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Covelle will likely report to either the Mariners’ Class A Short-Season, Northwest League affiliate, the Everett AquaSox, or the franchise’s Rookie Level, Arizona League affiliate, the AZL Mariners.

(June 11, 2016) – Senior third baseman Jay Jabs (Schwenksville, Pa.) of the East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team was selected on Saturday afternoon by the New York Mets in the 17th round (520 overall) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Jabs will likely report to either the Mets’ Class A Short Season, New York-Penn League affiliate, the Brooklyn Cyclones, or the franchise’s Rookie Level, Appalachian League affiliate, the Kingsport Mets.

Junior third baseman Jay Jabs (Schwenksville, Pa.), senior right-hander Paul Covelle (Medford, Mass.) and senior right-hander Tanner Bird (Adams, Mass.) all landed on the ABCA All-America Second Team.

(May 31, 2016) – Senior center fielder Maxx Sheehan (San Jose, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with a walk in his final collegiate contest, but the No. 1/3 nationally ranked and East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team could get nothing going offensively in an elimination game on Tuesday afternoon at Coleman Field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Ravens saw their season end at the hands of Central Region champion and No. 3/12 Central Missouri, 6-0, on the third day of the NCAA Championship National Finals, hosted by Mount Olive and the Town of Cary.

(May 28, 2016) – In and out of trouble all evening and trying to stave off South Region champion and No. 5/17 nationally ranked Nova Southeastern until their teammates could find a game-winning run, the pitching staff of the No. 1/3 and East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team ultimately succumbed in the bottom of the 12th inning on Saturday night. Junior second baseman Jancarlos Cintron-Torres lined a two-out single into right field to plate senior right fielder Kavan Thompson with the game-winning run, as NSU picked up a 4-3, 12-inning victory at Coleman Field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The contest was the third of four games on the first day of the NCAA Championship National Finals, hosted by Mount Olive and the Town of Cary.

The win, over the No. 1/3 nationally ranked, top seed and host Franklin Pierce University baseball team set up a decisive, winner-take-all game to follow on Monday afternoon at the NCAA Championship East Regional.

His first home run of the season touched off a celebration in front of the dugout for the No. 1/3 nationally ranked, top seed and host Franklin Pierce University baseball team, which went ahead to stay in the winner-take-all title game of the NCAA Championship East Regional. Senior first baseman Matt O’Herron (Springfield, Mass.) added a solo shot in the eighth as the Ravens went on to a 6-3 win over second seed and No. 4/8 Southern New Hampshire.

(May 21, 2016) – For the second straight day, the No. 1/3 nationally ranked, top seed and host Franklin Pierce University baseball team ambushed an opposing starting pitcher on Saturday night at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. This time, the Ravens plated nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the stage for a 12-8 win over third-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas in the nightcap of the third day of the NCAA Championship East Regional.
