Play Suspended on Second Day of NCAA East Regional; Molloy Leads STAC, 1-0

RINDGE, N.H. (May 19, 2016) -- Junior third baseman Kevin Podell reached on a one-out, infield single and later scored on an RBI single to right-center by junior designated hitter Elijah Leerdam to give sixth-seeded Molloy a 1-0 lead over third-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday night at the first day of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Franklin Pierce at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. Just minutes later, and only eight minutes into the game, the skies opened up, forcing the suspension of play for the day.

The suspension forced the rearrangement of Friday's schedule at the East Regional. Thursday's game between St. Thomas Aquinas and Molloy will resume at 10 a.m., with two outs in the top of the first, a runner on first and a 1-1 count to Molloy junior center fielder Anthony Alberghina. The suspended contest will then be followed by the remainder of Friday's original schedule. The loser of the morning game will face second-seeded Southern New Hampshire in an elimination contest at 1:30 p.m. Top-seeded Franklin Pierce will then open its East Regional against fourth-seeded Felician at 5 p.m. Friday's nightcap will feature seventh-seeded Dowling against the winner of the St. Thomas Aquinas/Molloy game at 8:30 p.m.
